Never done it myself, were do I start.. anyone willing to share there expertise i was trained to do jewellery repairs at timpsons i loved it , basic stuff doing in branch re sizing bands ,shaping ,soldering /gold silver having the basic findings [jump rings ,ect ] quick soldering re joining ,diping in pickling solution to stop the tarnishing than buffing up with the rouge quick easy cash BUT THAN the other side taking in work for things i couldnt do ,collets ,jaws ,heads ,re setting ect all had to be sent off some times more hassle than worth you charge x amount for a several clusted diamond headed platimun ring to be re sized [beyond my skills ]you take the size send it off it comes back customers not happy with new size ?you had to pay customers payed you , you turn round n say tough tittys or bite the bullet n hope that the charge you made covers the re size another time customer wants a resize on a saphire ring 4 /5 sizes different you inspect the ring ,send it off sorted you get a call to say that the rings saphire stone had been enhanced with glass & that its cracked aparantly a bidding channels frave , so its down to you to break the news to customer n hope you dont have to do a compo theres so much you have to do when taking in jewlery inspecting ,finding out what ct it is ,derilium coated [white gold ]pr platimun ,weighing ,mesuring ect all whilst under the eye of the customer just incase the customer returns to tell you it was one of those full on priceless tresures , not putting you off but i loved inhouse work ,so satisifing to see a shabby charm bracelet comming in than going out with looking as new . aparantly the buying of scrap gold silver is on the up ,theres a place near me what buys in scrap ,shes doing so well ,i keep getting people think its me buying it ,ive had a few bargins ,ie silver chains , a lovley 3 diamond cluster ,18ct ring for 20quid , Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
