the dutch cobbler
In the Netherlands there is a supplier who wants to have back the carbage from shoerepairers! When we sort it out: leather, rubber and (machine-)dust, we get money for every kilo! It's not a lot of money but it's worth it. Now I split out the carbage in 3 bins: one for leather (uppers and (old)soles), one for rubber and one for the rest. One's a month they pick it up and they weigh it, and I get my money directly. They collect it and send it to a firm that re-use a part for isolation-material. (Offcourse they make more money, but they have to give more at once!) The rest-materials is so less I don't have to pay as much as in the past to get it away! Cheers, John
Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
The Leather Tanneries and manufacturers in Italy have been doing this for years, it all goes into Insulation for building materials ie; Thermal concrete blocks. It is not collected though, it goes via underground pipework direct. Nice to see the method being used in other locations.
the dutch cobbler
Hi Hugh, this is specially for shoerepairers! In the leather Tanneries and manufacturers they make more carbage in a week then a shoemaker in a year! I make really good money out of my carbage! \:D/ The Dutch Cobbler
Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
Pleased to hear it, but here in the UK there is more offal from repairers than tanneries as tanneries have all but dissapeared from the UK.

ihadlegs
Hugh's olive oil fetish aside... I've been buying shredded cabbage on my kebabs for years... lemon juice makes it fantastic. ha... I buy shredded clothing waste for spinning, and its not a small business here in the UK... a large percentage goes to the car inustry to be made into sound proofing... but a good wadge goes to the clothing industry where its mixed with new materials to form yarn... If a garment doesnt have a logo saying 100% new wool, then it means that it could contain the remnants of old garments, mill spoil (noil) and or combination of all... just as a note... I pay nearly 50 quid a meter for reclaimed wool cloth! Under royal warrant too.... must pay the bill can they still lop off my head?
