Alan
I have just had a letter from the company that supplied me the above products, informing me that there is a recall of TK30 heads. have they been a problem?
Technical Tony original
We have also received a letter for these as well, not really explaining whats wrong with them! My best bet is to ask the main supplier of these and see what is the problem
Guest Cjm
There have been some reported failures of TK30 due to a wiring problem. It looks to be less than 1 percent of them, but as a precautionary measure the supplier is recalling them. If anyone has bought any from us you can return them to us for credit. The replacements should be available at the end of this month.
Mark Davis
These battery head keys are a nightmare, keyline or silca i personally do not trust them and have stopped using them. I've had a few back over the years some after a couple of months others a couple of days. It worries me that someone could drive 500 miles away from me then there key stops working if this was there only key they could incurr serious costs to get them mobile again. Now if the boot was on the other foot i would be looking to recover these costs from whoever sold me the faulty key. Not only would this damage my reputation but also make a serious dent in my wallet.

This is my reply BUT a great bit of advice here to stop this from happening with these and save you or your customer any problems. OK - as Silca have been clever and made their heads so you can take the batteries out and replace them, if the battery ever decided to fail. all you do is sell your customer a spare replacement battery at time of sale of the main key . Reason - tell them to keep this with the car at ALL TIMES and if the battery in the key failed to work the car..... get them to replace the battery there and then, as the key WILL remember the old code. Now - your customer is back running within no time - and you also advise for every time they use the spare battery they MUST then purchase a new spare ......... etc . I think you should follow this here .
Lee
I have had two silca keys fail, both worked fine for a couple of weeks then stopped. I reprogrammed both & this was some months ago & neither have failed again. But its left me "edgy" about them. Lee

Not sure how long ago this was for you, but the OLD silca EHS"1" keys worked fine but in a few cases Silca found that Static electricity for External items / forces could lead to the code being deleted So they then produced the EHS "2" heads to stop this from happening! and so far if we have had returns for these new EHS2 heads they only reason was a flat battery - Hence suppling the end customer with a spare! I hope this is a little help hear PS - JMA are soon to Launch their add on Cloner for their TRS5000 which does not use batterys so will not loose the code due to loss of the battery power! and will copy Texas (at present) but also Texas Crypto

Guest Cjm
This is what we have received from the manufacturer so it should answer all questions: 1) Can the TK30 still be used to copy Texas Crypto keys? No. Starting January 15, 2008 it will not be possible to use the TK30 head to duplicate those keys. The new head TK40 will have to be used instead. 2) What happens if I try to copy a Crypto key using a TK30? Trying to write an OUTCODE on a TK30 will result in an error, displayed from the 883 or the Console program. Please note that from January 15 until January 21, 2008 it will not be possible to receive any OUTCODE from our SuperComputer, so it will be impossible to copy a Texas crypto key anyway during that time frame. 3) Can I still read TK30 heads? Yes, provided that the key is still working in the car (even if it works intermittently). 4) I have customers complaining their TK30 do not work, or work intermittently. What shall I do? All the TK30 which showed signs of malfunction must be replaced (in warranty) with a copy made on a TK40. 5) I have a number of TK30 in stock. What shall I do? Please contact your local distributor, which will replace all of your TK30 heads with the new TK40 as soon as they've available. 6) What is the TK40? The TK40 is the new electronic head developed by Keyline, which fully replaces the TK30. It also contains the support for the new Ford Integrated Key Transponder (IKT) Keys, which will be duplicable through the standard Texas Crypto procedure. 7) Do I need to order new blades to be used with the TK40? Absolutely No. The TK40 is identical in shape to the TK30, so all the blades you used with the TK24/TK30 can still be used with the TK40. 8 ) Do I need a special machine to use the TK40? No. You just need to upgrade your 883 internal firmware to version 12. 9) Does this Upgrade add any feature to my 883? Yes. Not only enables the use of the TK40, but also makes your 883 able to: – Copy the Ford IKT Keys as a regular Texas Crypto key; – Recognize the newest Honda keys with the latest Megamos chip. 10) Do I need to buy this upgrade as I did for the Crypto Upgrade? No, the upgrade will be downloadable through our website and made available on a CD. Please note that this upgrade will work only if your machine has been updated with the Crypto Upgrade (version 10 or higher). 11) I went through a lot of trouble to install the Crypto Upgrade. Do I need to redo everything from scratch? No, most likely. If you already installed the 883 Update program on your computer when you did the last upgrade, you can use the very same program to upgrade your machine – you just need to copy the new firmware files on your computer. 12) How do I copy a crypto key on a TK40? Exactly as you did on the TK30. Nothing has been changed in the procedure, so you can continue using the Console program, mobile phone or GSM kit as you did before. 13) Do I need to upgrade the Console program? No, the 883 Console will still work flawlessly after you've upgraded your 883. 14) When will the new TK40 heads be shipped? Due to the fact that this matter was totally unexpected, we are not in the position to replace the entire volume of TK30 at once, but within three weeks we will start dispatching the new electronic head. Please contact our customer service for further information on the availability of the new product. 15) I have a customer whose TK30 stopped working. I tried to read it but my 883 displays “Transponder not detected†
Mark Davis
I,ve had them back and reprogrammed them as well, i've also had to change the batteries. However i have one sitting on my desk that has had the batteries changed and still will not reprogramme. This is why i have stopped using them. Also the JMA 4c chips will not clone all 4c transponders something to do with TPX chips?
busy bee
We still haven't upgraded to the Texas Crypto keys. Stuart Smith was in the middle of doing it for us when he was killed, so we have it half installed on our computer and haven't asked about getting the job finished, as we still feel unsure....... We have a customer with a Suzuki car who we have supplied a TK24 and that keeps failing. She cannot go anywhere without taking her original key, just in case it fails again.....so what was the point in having a spare key cut?
