Motor on finisher

The motor for my scouring bands has packed in. Am I able to replace this or repair it? The motor was running quite slow on Saturday but just packed in altogether this morning.

Have you checked the motor brushes? Might be the motor starter as well, is it running through a 3 phase converter or straight 240volts?

Running straight through 3 phase. The motors for the trimmer and mops are working ok just the motor for the scouring bands that's not.

I'd hazard a guess it'd be either the motor starter, brushes or capacitor. If you not sure what you are upto with the elecs get a sparky in. Brushes are the easiest to check though.

I did manage to get it going again by taking the bands off but will still only run with the smaller band on the left hand side. Will need to make do with that until I can get an electrician to look at it.

Ian what machine is it? It may be possible to get a new motor. From the description I would say it is 1phase and the capacitor has packed up. You may be able to change the cap if you can see the numbers on  it (there may be 2 capacitors, change both) it is the tube shaped part of the motor. If you see the numbers google them to get the right one.Using it the way you are will burn it eventually.

 

Another possibility is the bearings have gone but you will be able to tell this if the wheels are stiff to turn.
