Moraylocksmith
Good Morning. Just newly registered to this forum and am very recently the proud owner of my first key cutting machine. Although content with the cutting of keys, I am confused as to how you are able to ID key blanks by serial number or when a customer hands you a key. Is this something that is acquired through time and experience or is there a manual to assist?
Lee
both, any supplier will supply you with their key blank manual. but I can't remember the last time I looked through mine! experience is the biggest "key" but you have to start somewhere you'll soon get to know whats locally mainstream. Mike at Vauxhall
S.k.s do a really good cross reference book. But you will start to recognise your blanks. At home I play " shout out the blank" when I see keys on the telly. I play it in my head now after objections from the family.

coffin_dodger
A great web site / database to cross reference keys is https://ekc.silca.biz/index.php Another really handy tool to check profiles is a piece of cuttlefish and will help you learn your keys Finally for the tricky ones or the new ones there's here or most suppliers offer an ID service for free, where you can email a pic over
