i have to agree about the job becomming far easier than it once was , lishi has simplified the job a hell of alot , just take a simple job like a renault clio , to pick and decode this takes around a minute to do now with a lishi instead of an hour opening it , stripping it down to decode it , refitting it , then cutting key , only then to find a different lock on ignition to door , so then set about removing and stripping the ignition , and almost always when its pouring with rain.

cut to code machines are far cheaper and far better today than they used to be , so far more affordable, diagnostic kit for pin extraction and programming has come along 10 fold to make the jobs almost idiot proof these days .

add this to the improved key and info supply , and its a far easier job than it once was .

The downside i guess is that its not as skilled as it once was , the everyday stuff could be done by a novice these days , although we welcome an easier life and simpler jobs due to improved technology etc , its certainly had an effect in making it a far less skilled job than it once was, thats progress , though im sure the same can be said for mechanics and many other trades too.

some good posts, good advice.

Just two things.

1) if you buy chinese tech, you will one day come unstuck one way or another. i spoke to a guy who had his citroen picasso ecu wiped by a T100 or whatever it is.

2) Don't think profit figures on a key job should really be open to public knowledge should it?

3D is best on price, and invaluable in anyone's early days. Think about it. No head scratching and going through catalogues, just email make, model, reg, VIN and have a key cut to a code you don't have, remote with battery and chip, delivered to your door the day after, with the immo code you need to program it.

If my MVP will pull the code, then cool. If it won't, 3D refreshes the parts my MVP won't :)

Correct about it becoming more of a 'added income' job. But it really depends on what you want it to be, and how 'involved' you want to get in the industry. MVP pro, AD900 and three cutting machines do everything I want them to :)
