TSR
Hi everyone, hope all is well. I am new to engraving so was after some advice, need to engrave brass plaques. We are using Gravostyle 7 Discovery with font pack 3. Could anyone please suggest what font would be best so the lettering can be infilled and to what depth the engraving should be for this ? We are not sure if we should be looking at the True Type fonts or the pre-engineered fonts ? Also we was looking at the Gravobrass Exterior and was wondering would we be best using the Gravoxide to infill or the paint technique as shown on the forum tutorials ? StevenB
I'm not familiar with the Gravograph software, however the same basic principles will apply. Engraving depth should be 0.3mm for infilling to work properly. The pre-engineered fonts will be optimised for engraving, so stick to them for now, unless your customer requests a specific true type font. Be aware that doing a cut in brass plate you will need a wider letter spacing than with diamond drag, due to the increased width of the letters. With regard to colour filling, you've obviously seen the tutorials on here, have a go, get stuck in & see what works for you. We all do things differently, as long as it works, you can't say any particular technique is right or wrong.
Lee
I ain't to clued up on Gravostyle 7 Discovery, but in older versions & for brass I use the true type fonts & hatch them, before running through. i always cut mine at .6mm deep as I seam to get a richer, shiner looking infill. disregard the tutorial using Gravoxide. I've since learnt the error of my ways & use the paint infill technique instead, it gives a much better finish. Lee
