Metaza MPX-80 photo engraver WANTED

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I currently use a Dahlgren diamond drag engraving machine to engrave text and vector logos / illustrations etc.. I have been getting a lot of enquiries from our website for photo engraving, e.g. a photo of someone's dog engraved.

So, i have decided to offer an image upload facility on the site and I am looking to buy a Metaza MPX-80 to do these photo engravings on. I know most people on here aren't big fans of Metaza machines, but I though I would post just in case someone is selling one.

Thanks.

Here's my 2 penneth

They come up every 2 to 3 weeks on Ebay for about £300 to £700 expect to deal with the worlds worse customers if you try doing this I speak from experience. There's a reason why there are so many machines available on a regular basis.

You will spend loads of time communicating with customers and returning photos that are not suitable, you will also get loads of complaints when stuff has faded and starts to wear off.

Also you will get many customers that get back to you saying "It only shows up properly when I turn it in the sun" or "Not very clear is it" You will also get through quite a bit of stock when learning and even when you are used to the machine it's very easy to screw something up. Ghosting is very common, the nose cones need replacing often at extra cost £10 each last time I checked and the pins/heads cost £500 when they wear out.

Good luck m8, we found it was that time consuming and costly (for many reasons) that our time was better spent in other areas. Even if we only used our spare time and money to do SEO stuff in the background on our website it would still give a better return than the few quid we could have made on the Metaza when considering all the cost factors.

Like I said I wish you the very best of luck, in my experience your'e gonna need it

I think the only way to get decent reproduction of photos is by using a laser rather than mechanical engraving.

Craig is possibly the best person to confirm this as he uses both.

yip i have a couple of both machines and dont even do picture engraving with the lasers it aint worth the hassle

Thanks MrKeys.

Which machine did you have? Was it a 60, 70 or 80? Is there an alternative to the Roland machines for photo engraving?

Sorry for late reply I had an MPX-80

Im told the bigger machines are better but wouldn't trust Metaza again after our previous problems. I guess it s fine to do that stuff if your using your own materials though and not customer items where mistakes can get costly ??? Who knows i'm sure they do have their place in the world
