Framon #2/cut to code advice

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am trying to cut a key to code using my Framon#2 key machine. i bought this machine a while ago with a view to setting up on my own.

Please see pics, I don’t know what I am doing wrong maybe I have the wrong key blank info or I am using the wrong block for the machine. As you can see the #2 cut is way to deep and the key keeps flicking out of the jaws.it a bad pic but the keycode is FH097 and i am using a HD LAS21 keyblank. Any advice gratefully accepted.

Have you ever cut a key on the machine before? there very easy to use, all the instructions are in the D&S book which you appear to have.

Your only cutting .283 so should be removing very little material, without seeing how you are trying to go about it, very difficult for me to explain. where are you based?

Hi Mark

I haven’t cut a key to code yet. I have only made a small MK suite with 10 locks to it, works ok though (very accurate machine) I t seems I am clamping the key down wrong (thanks for the piano wire tip)I thought I may have needed the other jaws specially for carkeys/doublesided keys that can be purchased separately? The manual says to cut one side of the key then transfer to another machine for duplication.thats ok but I might only want one key.

Thanks for the advice.

I am based in Hull E yorks.

You will not need the car key jaw to do this key, if you look at the jaw your using it has 2 sides one is deeper than the other, use the deepest one, and make sure your cutting to right depth from the looks of your key your no where near it,

the 1 cut is .240 which generally means thats how wide the key is,

The 2 cut is .217 which means your only trying to remove .23 thousands of an inch

A set of veneeriers will come in handy the machine normally comes with a set to check calibration.

Basicly all measurements are from the back of the jaw. once you have cut one side you will need to duplicate onto another key in your cylinder machine and cut that one both sides.

The blocks do not make any difference to the depth they are only to give you the correct spacing between cuts,

i have lots of cutters not sure of the code it is the narrow one as i mainly use it for cutting car keys to code.

I'm not sure of the genericode version i have as i generally use instacode, genericode does have more codes on it than any other software, but most of them are useless unless your working in the USA.

Glade you got it done, as with anything, very simple to use once you get the hang of it.
