UK if I send you a piece of horn can you try it on the laser machine when you get it (dont ask)

For info, we have supplied a laser to a company specialising in 'horn' products. It works really well for either engraving and cutting horn (but the smell is pretty bad...!).

HI, WE GOT OUR LASER BACK IN JANUARY (LS100) FROM GRAVOGRAPH

IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS/TIPS PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I WAS A BIT SKEPTICAL WHEN WE GOT IT BUT IT HAS PROVED EXTREMELY VALUABLE TO US.

INSTEAD OF SITTING IN FRONT OF A MACHINE ALL DAY FEEDING PLATES

YOU CAN RUN ABOUT 17O PLATES (50X15) AT A TIME. ALLOWING YOU TO WALK OFF AND GET ON WITH OTHER JOBS.

VERY FAST PRODUCTION TOO.

ENGRAVING GLASS IN ABOUT THE QUARTER OF THE TIME

WE ALSO HAVE A CYLINDRICAL ATTACHMENT FOR GLASS TANKARDS

DON'T LET THE SALES GUY SELL YOU ANY CERMARK, AT £100.00 A CAN

IT'S NOT WORTH THE MONEY AS IT KEEPS CLOGGING UP AND YOU SPRAY MORE OFF THE PRODUCT THAN YOU DO ON IT.

ANYWAY, ANY COMMENTS? LET ME KNOW

Andy

it's always worth reading through the terms and conditions from any site your using, but in any forum using CAPS is considered shouting, and should only be used as such!

Our T&C state

>15 GENERAL USAGE

15.3 Please do not use ALL CAPS when requesting support. This goes for topic titles and message bodies. If noticed a quick warning will be sent out. Typing in ALL CAPS does not mean faster support.

Although where all fairly easy going here, so we'll let you off JUST THIS ONCE!

Hi Andy

Is this the Andy I think it is...East Molesely?!

Anyway..with Cermark, what you need to do is once you have finished using it for the job that you are doing...hold the can upside down and spray (obv. in well ventilated area) until the mist is clear. Then wash the nozzle in warm water and all should be fine and should have no problems with a can!

Hope this helps...John

oops! it's the sales guy who sold me the cermark  thanks for the tip john. i just find it a bit hit and miss. what i do now for brass is use black coated jewellers brass and enrave away the background. bit of brasso and the jobs a gooden. looks great too. oh, and planet uk please don't feel too embarresed to ask me for some advice with your new laser. i am also still waiting to tattoo your butt.447_supermanlogo_2.jpg

I aint a sales guy!!

With regards to engraving the background away, another tip is to create the job as you normally would, but then in the laser settings screen, if you select a NEGATIVE engrave, it also removes the background! Dunno if thats the way that you do it or not, but is on of the ways i use as is nice and easy!!

sorry john. the sales guy was old billy boy. you are indeed a very good product support technician

and you have helped me out on several occasions. including this time :smt023 thanks again for the negative engrave tip, i was converting to curves putting a box around and linking up. your way is definately quicker/easier.

IIRC you have the advanced tools with you version of software?

Another way that you can do this is by drawing a square on the plate the full size of the plate, filling it black (by turning it to a raster instead of vector), typing your text and then using (i think without looking!!) either UNION or SEGMENTATION...this also creates the same result, and is a lot better if there is only a small part of the plate that you need to do this to, the negative image will remove obviously ALL of it!!

Are you around on Monday afternoon at all? I am in your area and was thinking of popping in for a few mins to say hello!!!
