it will be a much frowned upon chinese copy and most if not all the guys on the forum will tell you not to touch it

Yeah I thought as much but If you don't ask you don't find out

very true, and also from what i have read they can possibly carry bugs although not sure if that is scare mongering or true

the EEPROM modules seem to work

Sounds like a good option, then... because there are a couple of modules that have never worked since I bought my genuine one three years ago.... despite all the updates. :shock:

But seriously;

Then stay well away from all this chinese crap. Take a good look around the forum and note all the problems people have with genuine kit..... including cars which finish up none runners, just from trying to copy an existing working key!!!... Then ask yourself where the support will come from and where the financial liability will lie if it happens to you while using an illegal machine! =;

replying to last post where do you get your kit from? and why do you still do it if its that much hassle!

It's not hassle for me. I have the training, the experience, the contacts, and a wide range of different (genuine) equipment options to put things right, if and when they go wrong (and they do go wrong sometimes... no matter how much experience you have). Because I only use genuine kit, I also have the option of help and advice from the manufacturers and retailers of the equipment. And finally, not that I have needed it yet, if the worst ever came to the worst; I also have proper, dedicated, autolocksmith[/b] public liability insurance (a standard locksmith policy will not cover anyone screwing up a customers car!).

As for where? There are plenty of retailers of genuine equipment out there. They are the one's that publish a proper UK contact address on their websites, issue a proper VAT receipt, and charge well in excess of ten times the prices you will see on ebay. :)
