How close are timpsons to your shop

Recommended Posts

Both Me and Timpson on the same street, I am located at one end and they are on the other end ( busier end thou)

They sometimes send customers over  for stuff they out of stock or do'n't want to do and I occasionally send customers over them.

So , not much confrontation but if any of us closes , the other one will be much happier :)

bit close but, it can only be good for your business.

did you open first?

Yeah it can be good for business, especially with all this queuing. they’ve just made one of the lads redundant and manning it with the other bloke. We get on well with them and there pretty open about what they take and what’s going on behind the scenes.

I’ve seen their takings. I’m surprised there’s any queues and even more surprised there were 2 of them in there

We have heard their going to be closing the one opposite us, which you could say it’s a good thing but they are a high street name which do bring folk into town. that’s actually two shops with the wall knocked through so I would imagine they will be paying two lots of rent and maybe two lots of rates. There’s only a que every now and then and it’s usually for dry cleaning..

Yeah we’re in Kendal. You should have popped in we haven’t had any other cobblers pop in for a while.

I started my career in that Timpsons on a YTS when I was 16.  I believe the guys Terry and Nigel still work there.  If proof was ever needed that businesses can successful work alongside Timpsons this is it.  I was 16 when I started and I'm 53 now, so that's a lot of years!

For the record we have 4 Timpsons withing about 3 miles of our shop in Carlisle, one in walking distance and another about a mile away.

In total we have 8 cobblers including myself and Timpsons in an approx 3 mile radius.

I’ve got 4 all within 15 minutes walk.

I've got two pods outside local supermarkets,  you do get the convenience brigade, but noticed a large amount beginning to see through their ridiculous price structure and the bullshit.

I went into the nearest one (he didn't know me) and asked if he could replace a buckle on a belt, just to see if they take on this type of work!

He said, and I quote. "You can't get that done, it's a sealed unit"

It was a straight forward unpick stitches, replace and restitch.

Even Joe public can see through this type of idiot.

Why not just say, no, sorry no can't do that!
