Danny King
Well our friendly John Timpson is opening his nice shiny new store 10 doors away from me tomorrow at 8am. Its a Johnson Dry cleaners with Max Speilman with key cutting and full watch repair counter. Prime corner location with free parking. What I find odd is within 200 yards on the same road there is a Launderette with a small dry cleaners been there for over 50 years. A dry cleaners specializing in weddings etc been there for 40 years. Then me been in there 20 years but shop has been there 80 years......... Well thank you John the so called family man... That's 3 small family businesses you want to close in this very trying time....... Don't worry boys I have a lot of fight in me which some of you will know............. Jontheshoe
We have two Timpson shops , ( one a pod , outside Tesco ) near 2 us , there over priced & generally crap at what they do , does annoy me though when customers come to us moaning about how much they paid for repairs & keys while using them. How poor there repair was , & the rubbish service they received, After 30 years it’s like banging my head against the wall . they may take some business at first ; but hang in there & benefit from there greed & sloppiness given time Dave the locksmith, Happy Dude, da miller and 2 others
Flash
They won't stop till all the independents have closed, due to retirement, old age, coronavirus and lack of young blood, nothing to do with their skills or business acumen.
exp121260
They might take some business off you at start but it also gives you the opportunity to revise your prices and increase your prices slightly. This can compensate for the business lost and customers can't complain about your prices ! x minit uk, Mike at Vauxhall, da miller and 4 others 5

Lee
They opened about a mile from me & to be fair put a squeeze on me for a few years, but personally it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I'd gone stagnant at that point. I had a decade in decline 5 years prior to their opening & 5 years after it, to the point where I wasn't sure if I should go and actually work for a living & get a job. But it doesn't matter if your the multi million pound entrepreneur or the one man band we are all the same as Businessmen & we seek a living at any level & spot opportunity. It WILL be tough once they are banging on your door, but the people working in them are limited to only offering what the company tells them they can. you on the other hand are an entrepreneur & will spot something that will help you turn a corner back to area domination. I never look at Timpson Nationally, I just look at them as another local flea, fleas bite but they aren't the end of the world. Good luck. Lee
Interesting to see redundancies at Timpson. 5 in one area 2 to be chopped. The one I’m aware off hasn’t been back to work since look down and awaits their fate. 2 out of 5 40% !! The bigger they are the harder they fall. kobblers and Auto Key Wizard

Happy Dude
I have a Johnsons in the Sainsbury around the corner, when it was Johnson they undercut me with deals and they did take a bit, they also had the cheek to ask me to do their shoe repairs but wanted to charge the same price as me but with 40% discount (20% for them "20% discount to people holding one of their discount cards) Now it's Timpson owned and charging Timpson prices my keys pre lockdown were busier than ever and allowed me to make a reasonable price increase. Durban
Don't worry about it, I freaked out when they opened in my local Asda store, sure they take some business but the higher prices they charge means you can increase your price and still look cheap. I had a massive battle plan, I was ready to battle to the death with them, but I've never had a problem - they do their thing - I do mine. Jontheshoe
Think a lot of us are in the same boat , loads of tat being bought in ,with one or two reasonably decent jobs , keys quite steady ,but it’s going to be a tough few months before our busier months hopefully kick in . Speaking to a local family run shoe shop owner today ,said it was that quiet ,worried for there future, been trading for 60 years . Nobodies been wearing or buying shoes for the last 4 months . So nobodies getting them fixed .

Michael
1500 makes sense to me, approx 1 per shop??? Big saving.
Count Muppet
Think it’s mainly from the Johnson side of the business. Dry cleaning hasn’t picked up again yet and I suppose with much more working from home or lost jobs it probably never will
