NYKeys
What are you guys doing about staff you may have on furlough accruing large amounts of holiday? Are you asking staff to take the holiday while they're on furlough? Cheers
petercoulson
We are a fairly small company and we will be relaxed about holidays I can't see there being much work for the near future anyway but St John Ambulance which has around 2000 employees is asking for those on furlough to take holiday days as a gesture but can't enforce it they can though carry up to 10 days over to next year as well to help when business starts returning. hibsjo(SCO)
couple of guys i know are topping the furlough up with holiday pay which the staff have agreed to dont know if its legal but one way of using up holidays carry on!
elfman
ii would guess that if they are on furlough and your getting the 80% from they government then there holidays would or should be accrued pro rata ,as for the legal route then not sure if there is one been set out
petercoulson
It's very much a case of negotiation, you can force furlough employees to take holiday by "shutting" your workplace for a period of time but then full pay must be given not just the 80% but it's better to have a sensible negotiated way of helping each other - https://www.acas.org.uk/coronavirus/using-holiday
grahamparker
A few firms local to me are offering staff there full wages if they use up there holiday's and most i have spoken to have been more than happy to do this.

No dead shop for us we have just had the best 7 week trading period in the last 20 years it has been insane, i only managed 3 weeks on my own and had to ask my employee to return from furlough as i could not cope. Even with all the Timspsons (4 within 5 miles) and all the others now open (last count there are 15 other key cutters within a 5 miles radius) we are still busier than ever, My brand new Triax Pro is earning it's money back already. Been coming in at 7.00am and working till 7pm some days so i guess we are very very lucky. Mike at Vauxhall, pdr and exp121260
Count Muppet
I would guess you’ve made your own luck over the years. People will come to you because you don’t let them down. meanwhile most of our shops are run by people that don’t really know what they’re doing so people aren’t rushing back da miller

You must do really well on recommendations from the other key cutters, because of the range of keys you can do.

Thanks for that it is always nice to be appreciated and i always try to never take it for granted. I always try to buy the best machinery and NEVER turn any key away unless its restricted/patented and even then i will do my utmost to point the customer in the right direction or obtain the key on there behalf. Had a call from a guy in Dubai looking for some keys to be cut yesterday. Mike at Vauxhall, NYKeys and algsoul
