Today I started putting up a 2mm screen across the top of our 5.5M counter. Making 2 customer serving points (as in a bank) and putting markings on the floor along with a couple more of these 2m further back from the counter. That gives us 4 designated customer standing points. Not expecting that many people in the shop at one time but this way we can encourage customers to comply with the social distancing.

Customer will drop there key or lock into a Tupperware box. I'll drag it thru the hatch and give it a squirt and rub with a sanitised wipe. Cut the key . Give the keys back and take the money . Wash/gel hands and start again

At the moment I dont see the point in wearing gloves or a masks in the shop  (this may change) but hand gel will be used after every transaction along with much hand washing during the day. Scratch your nose when your cutting a key and gloves become irrelevant.

We have a lot of touchy feelie products hanging on the wall so I'm also looking at reviews on fogging and Ozone generators.A lot of mixed reviews so far.

Its gonna be a learning curve so these procedures are fluid and may change as we start to work with them.

Was 2mm substantial enough ?

Anyone know anywhere with perspex in stock? We are struggling. We had an order in with the plastic people in Leeds which should have been ready by now but when I called them to chase they said they didn't have the raw materials in stock. They've been horrendous to deal with so far.

I’m a week in and.......

ditched wearing a mask, made me hot a sweaty and just wasn’t practical, ditched sanitising keys but I’ve always worn gloves when doing bikes to stop getting greasy so just wear these as normal.

i was so busy this week a lot of my plans feel by the wayside but I change my gloves regular and wash my hands regular, watch batteries I’ve stopped doing wyw and do them in batches put each one in a clear seal bag and then wash my hands after a batch.

one thing that surprised me was how many customers Take a squirt of hand gel whilst as the counter.

the practicalities of using PPE is actually quite tricky.

We are opening by appointment from a home workshop.  It's working quite well.  Appointments booked on Facebook mainly (we have a large Facebook presence). Customers remain outside the workshop while I cut keys and also programming car keys on the drive.  I sanitise my hands with each customer and sanitise keys when handed back.  Items are handed back at arms length.  All surfaces touched in the vehicle are wiped clean with sanitiser cloths.

I know I said it before but medical masks although looking very paperish are in fact quite restrictive and unpleasant to wear they affect you a lot more than you think they will. This is another reason people with existing breathing conditions like asthma are being asked to stay in longer.

I have just got the face visors in stock, staff to wear seems more logical

also going to sell within shop, £5 each 5 for £20

I have a list for customers (15) so these should sell

We are selling lots of the Charles Birch Sanitiser.  My wife is sewing up face masks with changeable filters which we sell in different sizes and patterns for a fiver each

Something I read somewhere made me think.

if a fart can pass through your pants, jeans and the whole cushion on a sofa and still end up in your nose, what good is a thin bit of material gonna do against a virus?

I think you'd have to quantify that by putting a medical mask up your a**e and see if the fumes pass through?  8-[

The guitarist in my band is a ENT consultant & He's advised to have a counter to ceiling screen & to have  my side completely sealed if possible & masks EN95 minimum ,Considering a cough /sneeze can go 35 sq feet ...I won't be opening  for a while yet .

Update on customer comments about my counter screening.

Didn't really notice it myself but if you look at the pictures I've posted, it's a bit difficult to see thru the screen when the sun's out. What the customer see's is a reflection of themselves and what's behind them.

I've started to tilt the bottom of screening further into my side of the counter. Hopefully the customers will see thru the screens. if there's still a  reflection, it  will be of the legs and floor rather than the bright shop window that's behind them.
