mad cobbler
So its come to light that our shoe repair buisness is not listed on the local council business rates Even though 8 years ago we had a valuation & our kiosk was under the thresh hold for buisness rates So it was left as is Last week i contacted the local council asking iff i would be entitled to the gov grant Even though we are a regestered trader for cutting there keys From our shop address There is no listings of our shop on there rates listing & would take aprox 3 months for another valuation on our kiosk in the shopping centre were we are bassed & have been for the past ten years Chatting to the local mp today there on the understanding that small businesses what are under the thresh hold and have a nill assessment for buisness rates are not entitled to any grant?? Has anyone else had a grant pay out??
k4mrc
I like you are struggling, even though I have been paying rates - email, no reply telephone - no reply however I am told the payments start this week - so I will just wait I recommend you write to your MP Mine is usually really good at this type of thing. good luck

grahamparker
Got my grant money this morning i have paid my Vat for the quarter of £5400 rather than defer as i still have £6k left in the bank and i am owed just over £7k from trade acounts due in the next 6 weeks. All suppliers have already been paid so hopefully this money will last until we get the ok to open up again.

I’m not under the threshold but do have 100% rate relief but I still get a letter each year saying no payment is expected and that letter gives me a number that I used to apply for the grant. is it even possible to be under the threshold? Rate value is based on the rent value and any commercial space can be rented no one gets a space for free do they? i should think you have a good argument for their mistake, no? windycity
Could also depend where your are based ie Wales,Ireland,Scotland or England as all make up their own criteria for grants etc. But maybe as your unit is not say a fixed permanent unit (presumably) kiosk you don’t pay rates so maybe not entitled. I would contact the shopping centre too for clarification. I’m not an expert either. Good luck.
mad cobbler
Update Basicly my local council have now stated that as i have never applyed for a valuation on my kiosk unit for the past 10 years Iff i apply now for a buisness rates valuation its classed as a new business valuation So im not entitiled for a grant as a small buisness I had a email back from my local mp stating that he has got in touch with the local council to ask and to look in further for their decision for me As a small retail business Im not building my hopes up
