earlsdoncobbler
Hi asking for a friend who is starting keycutting what is the best keyway gauge for cylinder keys
grahamparker
There isn't one nowadays to many blanks, get as many key catalogues as possible as well as online tools like the Silca key software. Also use manufacturers websites as they sometimes list other manufacturers blanks as alternatives. kobblers, exp121260 and earlsdoncobbler 2
exp121260
Completely agree with Graham, However for a new starter which will be already slow in finding even most popular keys a key gauge will help and I personally recommend HD one supplied by Davenports as it covers larger range than other ones. earlsdoncobbler and kobblers 1
Cameron Avery
A key checker is often more useful as previously said there are too many profiles now so this will help in finding something appropriate to pass: https://www.sks.co.uk/sks-key-checker Remembering that the blank will often not pass until cut. earlsdoncobbler

GLENGRAVING
On the subject of tools for idiot-proofing the job, anyone here played with one of these; https://www.locksmithledger.com/keys-tools/article/12341278/keyline-introduces-camillo-bianchi-key-reader ? Worth it, or gimmick that you'll regret spending the money on once you've a bit of experience under your belt? Could make guiding less experienced staff a bit simpler is my thought

exp121260
This the HD one, it is not perfect but better than the slica and SKS/JMA, I have all but prefer the HD one.
