eimco
Hi lads I am using genuine Yale Superiour key blanks on the Silca Matrix SLX but finding the blanks very hard and it’s blunting the new cutters very quickly. Anyone use different cutters that last longer especially the track cutter.
almeriasecure
Genuine Yale key blanks are made with very hard metal & I do not use them because, as you have found, it is bad for the cutters. I use brass HD MAG1 from Davenport Burgess.
eimco
I would rather use the original blanks if possible I know Silca blanks and other manfuctures blanks are softer.
Dave the locksmith
I use genuine blanks and the original silca cutters. I cut about 50 a month had an initial problem with the W268 cutter breaking so I purchased one from Foselect it lasted about 3 keys before it broke. So I went back to Silca original and adjusted the triax speeds and had no problems since.
eimco
I have the Silca Matrix SLX and as far as I am aware I can’t adjust the speed of the machine. I cut them slowly with the Silca cutters but the track side is painful cutting.

I also use the Triax but would not use the genuine blanks they destroy cutters. The Silca/Keyline and JMA blanks all cut lovely and i can cut a good 4/500 before i worry about changing the cutters. ciawest
abababa
On the Futura, using original Yale blanks, I go through one 04L cutter (the snake part) every 40-50 keys. Never had to change the dimple cutter and ive cut about 250 superiors.
eimco
Cheers everyone by the looks of it all the genuine blanks are not worth it so back to the Silca jma ones thanks everyone.
Michael
I prefer cutting originals, I've got 5 left but will be using the JMA ones I have in stock after and won't be getting originals again!! BTW, what is the code for the Silca blanks, is it MGN1RP? I'd prefer a blank that looks similar to the original at least!!
grahamparker
Yes it is MGN1RP.
