alxfer
Housing association in town put a 'pass lock' on a property when it's vacated. This way all contractors have a key that fits any pass lock. I cut a new key whenever a new contractor is employed. The locks are starting to play up with age and use and I've been asked if I can get new locks which will take the key that all the contractors have. I'm sussing that the locks were originally a suite made up for the association. Anyone recommend a company that can use the original lock to save getting new keys out to some 40 contractors? alxfer
Forgot to mention the locks are standard eurolock double sided 100 mm with 45/55 split

alxfer
Not important Graham budget ones would do as they are only temporary fits whilst properties are worked on
grahamparker
It does matter as spacing and depth of pins will not match and will not work correctly.
Mick Friend
yes indeed they need to match a key then they need to be all the same spec space, depth etc so the same make MAY make the job easier IF they are made in the same factory still and not REBADGED from a cheaper supplier
alxfer
So would Sterling locks be viable make?
MarkD
Are you saying the old ones are Sterling or just asking if you can swap the old ones which we don't know what brand for Sterlings? Give the guys the required info and it will be a lot easier to help you.
grahamparker
If the original locks are sterling then yes. If not you will have to start again. There are some cylinders that are compatible with each other like Yale 5 pin and Zoo hardware, also Abus and Cisa had a shared factory/investment so a lot of the plugs and pins are interchangeable. On my front door i have a pair of Cisa screw in cylinders fitted with my old Abus 5 pin section plug. But other than those most differ in such a way you cannot just supply any cylinder that a key will fit into and hope to pin it successfully unless it is the same make as the worn cylinder. Been there done that and failed. You can sometimes cheat by only fitting say 2 pins and emptying the other chambers but that is a risky thing to do.
