Mortice key marked '11' - not a particularly good match for anything I seem to have

Recommended Posts

Union MH blank. or Sks ref 559/01 or 2.

Thanks as ever Graham. Now that you mention it (duh..) it of course looks like a decent match. Had a rush on at the time the key came in and I find that's often a sure fire time for the mind to go blank.

Lol

Thanks for that...lovely supportive comment.

Yes.

Pretty sure you can also get them from SKS, Davenports, Keyprint, NW Keys and the bunch of shysters B*******

Don't bother with any numbers under 20 as we hardly see these anymore.

Better still, get a master set and cut your own and fill the pegs up if you wan't to do it cheaper.

Dont forget Assa Abloy now own Union so there will be price rises every couple of months if you want genuine.

We sometimes cut our own after a period when the non-genuine ones SKS were supplying were of a poor quality and sometimes did not fit (sometimes the voids between teeth on the bit of the key were not voids but solids from the casting! These issues have now settled down some.

Graham do you bother to stamp (i.e. number) your Union keys once you've cut them? If so, by what method? I imagine you have a nifty solution.

You can use 6 keys to make a master set up as the cuts are repeated just on different blanks.

So if you get 1 of each the following 9,10,11,12,13,14

They can cut the following sequence

09= 15,21,27,33,37

10= 16,22,28,34,38

11= 17,23,29,35,39

12= 18,24,30,36,40

13= 19,25,31

14= 20,26,32

You do not have to use 9-14 to make up the set you can use say 09,28,35,40,25,20 (as long as you have one of each then it does not matter)

but use genuine so you always copy from an original.

Hope that makes sense.
