Stanley Mishap
Here we go again .... They all expect free engraving ...so they don't factor it into the cost of their order ...

k4mrc
I had a 'Regular' Annual customer who used to spend around one K every year, came to me to 'sort of' apologise for not buying off of me this year as he is now getting them online - saying mine was around 7 quid each + any engraving, to now less than 2 quid each! I think the time is now that anyone calling in for trophies if you have to give a bit off to get the sale Give it! it's more important to make a bit than make nowt.. Some are very lucky (or just very good) and get a decent trade, others not so, I have no room to display the trophies at all so when I get orders am very happy grahamparker and Stanley Mishap
Paul_
We discount a little on large orders but don't try and compete against the online people, it's not worth it in my opinion. We lost a large order from a darts league this year, they went to an engraver in another town. He offered free engraving, 10% off trophies bought and FREE engraving on all annuals (cups and shields etc). Bloke must be mad! I know I wouldn't. Stanley Mishap
grahamparker
15-20 cups (that's a lot of work for nothing) would guess at approx £200+ worth of free work. The internet is making things tougher for us all in the trophy market. Stanley Mishap
Paul_
The guy who got the order instead of me is in a shop but he is obviously happy to compete against the online guys. I'm lucky enough to have enough work not to have to compete that hard. Must get on.... Stanley Mishap
Stanley Mishap
Thing is - at the end of the day profit margins are all that matters .... The charge for the engraving is what most engravers actually profit from , I know that if I had a £500 order and gave 15 -20% discount AND free engraving .... ....I'd literally be making only £150 - for all that work , unpacking polystyrene boxes checking it all ...sweating , fretting....time consuming....nah no thanks.... A repairer in a nearby town has scrapped all trophys and engraving , and he says he feels all the better for it ..... By the way - the new Glenway catalogue has 'we love trophies . Com' on the front .... If you go to that website all engraving is FREE ! ....so we're cutting it off the catalogues we give out .... kobblers

Where have you seen mention of free engraving? Or even being able to order from there? Stanley Mishap
Paul_
It's not Glenway doing free engraving. That web address kicks you to another supplier who offer free engraving on all trophies over £3. Quite clever of the company to get a link form that address (I think that's how it works) Stanley Mishap and kobblers
StevenB
When I type in the address, it just takes me to the online version of the trophy catalogue. I don't quite understand how you're getting it to take you to another site... Okay, so I've tried googling: 'we love trophies', and it has taken me to a results page where there are results that match what you describe, but this isn't surprising as its a general search, not the website on the catalogue. I've never had a problem when recommending customers to go to the catalogue link, clearly all that is required is to ensure they go to the exact link, not do a general search, at the worst, surely all that is needed is a little education to ensure they follow the link accurately. Surely removing the part of the catalogue front page with the link on just makes the catalogues look tatty, second hand & unprofessional? kobblers and Stanley Mishap
Stanley Mishap
Just typed it 'we love trophies.com' on to my phone as a Google search (as a customer would do ) .....it shows the Catalogue cover - and then states FREE engraving for any trophy over £3 .... And GLENWAY HAVE THAT ON THE COVER OF THEIR CATALOGUE!.... So no small wonder some customer sees this - thinking its me (I did give them the catalogue) ....and expects FREE engraving ! Graham
Not sure who that site is but they seem to be ripping not only Glenway off but also one of the online retailers too.
StevenB
Just typed it 'we love trophies.com' on to my phone as a Google search (as a customer would do )Well then you, and your customer need to learn how web addresses work, leave out the spaces & copy the link exactly as it's printed on the catalogue. *rolls eyes*
CDTL
Have to say Trophy market not like it use to be online killing it. I have a few good customers who never ask for discount on the trophies and are happy to pay for the engraving, these are really the only customers I want, I have no interest in the big leagues (waste of time), I still do loads of perpetual engraving which is the best profit for us all. Now I have taken the steps to pick the best bits out, and will no longer do free engraving for anyone, I have more time on my hands to think about my business and what new things I can do to make more money. I know it's a big thing to say no to people, but working for nothing and getting myself stressed out over big trophy orders was just not worth for me and I am glad I made the right choice for me, It is also funny how once you do not care if you get the order or not due the fact you are more expensive they seem to come back in the end. Hope this helps Mike at Vauxhall
