k4mrc
Since this 5p for bags was brought in - have you noticed how many people now say NO when asked if they would like a bag? Best thing ever!!
Paul_
I don't even offer a bag anymore (all shoes are put in paper bags anyway). Since the 5p charge thing I have never been asked for one.
Count Muppet
It's us retailers who are getting blamed for the charge. People seem to think that we charge 5p to make more money. It doesn't help with the confusion that they don't have to pay when collecting shoes but do have to pay when buying shoecare
cobblers.keys
I am not charging if they collect shoes, buy shoecare, have keys cut or anything. I didn't think we had to unless you are selling fod or employ over 250 staff. I don't fit into either (yet) lol kobblers

Mike at Vauxhall
I'm definitely exempt then, unless I get a really bad infestation of head lice. Bit unlikely due to my lack of hair cobblers.keys
lockdecoders
You can only charge if you have more than 250 people. Remember some filling stations are also exempt as they are a franchise and if they have under 250 people.
Count Muppet
I think you can charge if you like, it costs you to buy them in so charge if you like. You just aren't legally obliged to do so

Simes
I think you will find if you run a shop you can charge for whatever you like. Agreed. I have never had plastic bags. Horrible things, I hate them. Nothing wrong with the old fashioned recyclable paper ones. Most of my customers won't even take them! That said they can park right outside so less need for them. gsc
You don't need to charge for bags if you are putting repairs in... It's a service. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/carrier-bag-charges-retailers-responsibilities

Mike at Vauxhall
Although on hind sight , that's probably a law passed by the scottish parliment. Not a law forced on Scotland by London. So he might be very happy about that.
mrkeys
Its an opportunity to cash in, I went to Tesco today every isle has bags at the front with prices ranging from 5p to £1 for many different styles and qualities. Every high street multi retailer has several bag choices now I'm gonna offer x2 bags when my new shop opens a cheap 5p and a lifetime quid bag, If yer can't beat em join em, at the very least it will take the cost away from having to give bags away Lee

Flash
So if we can't charge for bags that have our name on them, should our coined keys be free of charge , classed as advertising? kobblers
