keysinthecity
Does anyone know of a blank which is about 1.6mm in thickness but which is a universal (UL1/U5D) profile? These are for cutting shutter lock keys on. We've cut four for the customer but they are too thick and none of our other keys of a similar profile are anywhere near that thin. thanks Customer's "original" key is just silver colour with no markings on it whatsoever. Mike at Vauxhall
Looks like your customer has a cheap shutter ( probably made of tin foil). You could try grinding a universal blank a bit thin.
chrisorros
Try a WMS2 silca ref. Thinnest blank i can think of in that profile

I tend to use glasspaper and rub the key on that...do you have a neater way? Thanks for the help.
Mike at Vauxhall
I use a grinding wheel. With lots of checking of measurements. As a side note, when you give a ground down key to a customer always stress the key should easily fit into the lock, otherwise it may get stuck ( which they will say is your fault/liability.) Glasspaper to finish, that sounds like a good idea. ( I will do that in future.)

keysinthecity
Seem to remember being told by Jimmy at Aldridges that it was slightly thinner but i may be wrong. Don't think U-26D is thinner but WM-4D is fractionally thinner. (Both JMA references). Measured with a vernier. thanks
Mike at Vauxhall
Just come across this problem on friday. Grinding worked in theory, got it to the right thickness, burnt two fingers and the key did not work. U26D ( HD H691 ) isn't that much thinner than UL1, don't really want to get drawn into this sale by the customer any further. He isn't willing to pay any extra and I've already given him a refund.
