LockandKey
We are just about to embark on a trip to Silca's HQ in Italy to buy a Protech machine and spec it for our needs. I appreciate there are very few in the world - and only one in the UK, but if anyone has any genuine knowledge or history of this machine please reply. I'm not expecting lots of responses! But if anyone has worked with a Protech I'd appreciate some feedback.

LockandKey
So apart from Google - no one has actually worked with one? Not wanting to be offensive in any way - I'm off to Italy this month to spec one up, and just wanted to see if anyone (only one in UK currently) has worked with this chassis with custom blank feeds? Adamdale
Not to be offensive, would it not be a good idea to contact the company in the uk who actually owns and operates this machine for some real feed back. prlocks
prlocks
Wow Lock & Key I don't want to be offensive but is this post just to let us lesser mortals know that you are considerably richer than us and are off on your jollies to Italy to buy a new toy that we can only dream of? Fair play I'd do the same enjoy When you're there see if they've got any Triax Quattrocodes laying around they're not using grahamparker, Shawn, Mike Whale and 2 others
Mike at Vauxhall
Looks spectacular, my main concern would be it becoming self-aware and trying to eradicate mankind. Shawn and grahamparker

yuksaro
That Protech looks amazing. I wish they were mass produced so that price point could come down, haha! Keyline makes something similar but its a lot smaller. Its called the Dezmo with the dromo attachment. We almost purchased one but the downside was it couldnt hold key blanks with plastic heads. It also doesnt do engraving like the Protech. I wonder if the Protech also has an issue holding blanks that have plastic heads.

LockandKey
Wow Lock & Key I don't want to be offensive but is this post just to let us lesser mortals know that you are considerably richer than us and are off on your jollies to Italy to buy a new toy that we can only dream of? Fair play I'd do the same enjoy When you're there see if they've got any Triax Quattrocodes laying around they're not using After some advanced 'early warning' from one of our partners we opted for a 3rd Triax and a KC5, the protech is something we still want, but at £20k per profile we will wait until the blanks are in our hands. (24 months before lock production) I get asked for 2nd hand quattros quite often - we've never sold one 2nd hand and have no intention to sell, but we may have some 299/399/993's for sale. Fair play I'd do the same enjoy When you're there see if they've got any Triax Quattrocodes laying around they're not using The video shows it using a single cutter on a single plane IE R6 or Cisa Astral (no R11 side cuts>>) - it's not what we need, so while Silca have said they can build it to use 2 cutters and a rotational jaw without manual intervention I am not convinced £80k will cover it when it comes to building it.... If anyone can do it Silca are the main players. We will buy one (despite the new machines) in approx 18-24 months for a new profile and to satisfy our thirst (as you say 'bragging') to see one in our workshop! LockandKey
So how much is the quatrocode? We have 3 Quattro's now - they are approx £15k+ each with the electronic jaws, sorted the problem for now. Just to confirm we are not selling any Triax quattros! The Protec looked perfect but it costs approx £15k per profile magazine / setting / jaws/ cutters. We still want one - but not until the market settles down! dljmobile
As anyone who knows me knows, I am taking the very rare step of going on a forum and making a post on this subject. The post by Locksafe references UAP, of whom I am the Managing Director, and the comments made are not correct, and hence this post to correct the information supplied. We do own a Dezmo machine which we purchased a week or so before the original City Safe went bust, and it is that that was the main cause for the initial set up problems. This then led to people who do not know the machine tinkering with it which worsened the issue. Chris Belcher was not one of the people who worked on the machine, and I am fortunate to count Chris as one of my many Industry friends who I talk to at least 3 times a week. Sadly Chris has been ill of late, but I am happy to report he is on the long road to recovery. 2 years ago or so Keyline employed their own UK field based technical engineers and the Manchester based one, Phil, sorted our machine, and it is superb, and has to date cut over 100,000 keys. The Keyline software update of some 12 months ago corrected the issue of not being able to upload our own cutting cards, and Keyline updated our software and added this feature free of charge. The build quality of the Dezmo is fantastic, and the key cutting quality is superb and I would welcome Lock and Key visiting Manchester to view and play with the Dezmo and assess it for yourself. As stated above, it is unusual that I get involved in Forums but I needed to correct the information supplied previously. I hope this post is useful. lockdecoders
dljmobile
I don't do forums, nor do I get embroiled in petty online spats. I have put UAP's side of the story to defend untrue and inaccurate comments made by you regarding the Dezmo. I wont be commenting further, but I am sure the readers of this forum will make their own minds up. My offer to Lock and Key visiting Manchester to play with the Dezmo at their leisure stands. Craig Gardner
I can't coment on the demo machine at all but from my experience I can say my onion of the yap cylinders the quality and accuracy of the locks are terrible but when on the road it helped bring us a lot of lock change work.
