StevenB
Anybody in a position to give a comparison of these 2 machines? I have had a 206 for 3 years, it's gone wrong & facing a hefty repair bill, I'm wondering if it's worth getting it repaired or cutting my losses & going for a new machine. I expect someone will say something along the lines of 'Buy Silca, Buy once'... This being the case, any suggestions as to the best place to get a good deal. I can't find anyone currently offering deals on the Lancer, any advice welcomed!
hakeemz
I can't find anyone currently offering deals on the Lancer, maybe thats because lancer doesnt need a deal for it to be sold..

Count Muppet
Having had a lot of use with both machines I can honestly say that if you had ever used a lancer you will think that the 206 is a pile of c@@p. I assume we got them in due to price but as soon as we changed back, machines were mysteriously falling off the benches needing replacement. grahamparker
Over the years i have used and owned quite a few mortice machines and had the use of others at open days, shows and machines from people who have sold up or retired. For me the Blade vectis (made by fotheringhams) is the greatest manual mortice machine ever made closely followed by the Silcer lancer and i own and use both machines. Try attending the next trade show and ask to have a go with them or ask for a rep to bring one for you to have a play with. Personally if i had to give up 1 of my mortice machines i would keep the Vectis over the Lancer but it would be a very close call it is that good. Lee
You probably can't get a Fotheringham anymore. Old man Fotheringham passed away a few years ago & Davenports brought the rights but never really did anything further (I may be wrong there, but its something like that) but even second hand, his machines are bullet proof, you buy a fotheringham once & retire with it.
