I had a customer come back with a key I had just cut for her, she also bought a key dude cap to go with it, she hadn't pushed the key all the way into the cap so that when she tried to open the door not all the key was in the lock.

The key was snapped and all twisted up, I thought to my self, she must have been hanging off that key to snap it.

I apologised and cut her another key and pushed it into the cap all the way.

I then decided to see how difficult it is to snap a key

I chose a HD brass key, put it in a vice and twisted it, it twisted and snapped with almost no effort, I really mean No effort, like snapping like a chocolate key!

I then thought I needed to check other keys,

JMA steel key snapped just as easy.

Silca steel snapped just as easy.

Give it a go, you will be amazed!!!

I find the quality of key blanks is not good these days not only in the quality of material but how accurate they are for example I have two Silca keys here UAP1 & UAP2 there supposed to be a slight difference in the blade height but the blades I have are exactly the same & have had quite a few not working because there is not enough on the blade for some high cuts I take pride in using exactly the right key but will review this from now on . For future ref the JMA U26D covers all of this type where a high cut is needed .
