my repair video

no he does not but you said as a company ie if he as a company sends in a entry from every shop that 900 entries and 900 chances if an independent has 3 shops then that's 3 chances so work out the odds it aint rocket science to see who has the better odds so maybe that's why he has more winners or maybe because they have more time on there hands as the have multiful staff levels and independents work alone

Maybe, maybe. Maybe the largest "company" of independents should win all the awards. Maybe Mr T has more skillfull staff than he gets credited for. Maybe they make time to enter the competitions. Maybe its time to give them some credit for what they have achieved, but to advise them to take note of what they will perceive to be an amateurish video is pathetic.

yes mr t does have a few skillfull employees but has a lot more salesmen and I have lost count how many times I have heard customers say that they could not do it in the shop it would have to be sent away to our factory

Two questions come to mind. Do you truly believe Mr T pays his staff to do nothing all day?

Why do these "customers" come to you as a second choice?

no he does not pay them to stand around all day doing nothing which is rather a silly question as even if he only eployed one man per shop they are not going to working all day none stop . as for your second question there are 2 Timpson shops in the city center that are about 5 miles away from where I am based and as I do not advertise in any way shape or form and yet they still come to find me what does that say

I do not advertise in any way shape or form and yet they still come to find me what does that say

I was chatting to a businessman today (in a completely unrelated trade) and he told me a theory he was told many years ago, that went as follows.

'You are probably offering a product or service that the customer could get in any one of a number of places. 50% of the reason they come to you is the quality of work you do (or bread you make, car servicing ability, whatever) the other 50% is you, the shopkeeper behind the counter. Do not underestimate the importance of you in the business equation!'

Wise words indeed & something I could certainly relate to.

No one mentioned competition winners, just those who want to be like me

I think it's worth noting that the number of shops that Mr T has is irelevent in this case, he just gets more staff to enter, I believe it would take no more than 10 independent repairers to re-address the balance,. I'm sure Robin Healey could throw more light on numbers though.

I think you have a point there keith however there is a but to it and that is its not mr t that has won but an employee of his now that person may or may not have been trained by him but it is him that will take all the credit for it and the accompanying publicity I can just see the advert

Timpson winners of the shoe repairer competition

Elfy whats your beef with this?

I dont have a problem with whomever entering and winning

whether indi or multiple

trained by multiple or self taught(we all want to be like Lee but a little TALLER  )

if you decide to enter that is your own choice

if multiple employee wants to enter that is their choice

to me its irrelevant who enters just as long as they do and they learn from the experience, other wise there is no point in entering.

carry on!

Even Lee wants to be a little taller, I can't tell you how tall I walked to work the day we noticed how Ross had exceeded my stature it was such a relief to know he wouldn't be frequenting the kiddies isles for Jeans

i have no beef hibs it was flash that called lees video amurtish and that mr t had more comp winners i was just trying to point out that it is the individual that wins not the company no matter who the work for

Slight correction here, I didn't call Lee's video "amateurish". I merely asked why should Mr Ts staff take note of

what they would perceive to be an amateurish video.

just seen this , top vid lee, as for flash! get a grip mate, you take orders from a family who wouldn't know how to switch the machine on, but know a man who can :D

Just to clarify a couple of things,I have to take orders from my family, all of who know how to switch a machine on, and are very able repairers. When I said "why should we take notice" I was putting Mr Ts point of view. I am not, and never have been an employee of there's.

I'm losing the will :smt020 its "just a video!" I didn't take much notice of James Timpsons "drongos" video at the time either, but someone did judging from the speed all traces of it disappeared. I didn't make it for anyone in the profession to learn anything from. I made it for the hell of it!

Still nice to see its mention here created the debate.

I think we all learnt that it's better to put the camera a little further away so the subject is in focus, rather than the background...
