slippy
Question. Compaired to 1A's how many universal do you cut. I worked out the other day that I probably cut a ratio of 3-1 on universal compaired to standard yale blanks. But why doesn't the buying price reflect this. Some suppliers are charging upto 7p more for a universal key when we actually buy more of them. Any suppliers care to comment please.
Graham@Derek's
We maybe in the minority but we cut far more A1's than universal. Whenever possible we use a dedicated blank, only resorting to a universal blank when we can't find a match.
Lee
Davenport Burgess charge the same for both blanks
derek
i too cut more 1a's than universals, only use the universal as a last resort
grahamparker
So what do you use when a customer brings in a key already copied onto a universal blank ?? We see more universals used by others (they don't use silca so i know we haven't cut them) and we do a lot more as a result of this.

slippy
Don't get me wrong I do stock the obvious keys like Cisa, Mila & ES. But first customer this morning wanted 8 keys with a No.10 on his. Why try a different key and it may not work when you know 99.9% a universal will fit. Unless you're absolutely loaded ya not going to turn work away just because you've run out of a particular type of key and a uni1 will work. What would you cut for a securit lock, a jedo or a vitawin

mad cobbler
i dont bother with 1a just ul1 ul2 & reverse love it but on a serious note i very raily see a yale key 99.9% of double glazed doors round here in cornwall or should i say st austell higher security tooo many fooking pikeys, smack heads , & brew heads i do laugh when i get the national chain retailers shop up the road cutting a merchant wms8 key on a 16hl [old yale 6 pin blank ] & scouring the fooker down to slide in the lock
