who does a shoe cleaning sevice

hi all just lately i`v been asked do you clean shoes if there black or brown i will give them a quick brush around but i don`t want to get involed in cleaning shoes or am i missing something what`s all your thoughts

I have just got back from New York and there seems to be more money to be made from shoe shine than repairs. In one shop in the Rokerfeller Centre there were 2 repairers and 5 shoe shiners all busy with 6 people in a queue waiting for someone else to do something they could not be bothered to do. I do not polish shoes other than a quick wizz on the brushes, if the colour matches, but I'm sure in the right shop on the right street there is a trick being missed by not offering this service.

You want to try the line "& would you like them polished for £XYZ" 5/10 times you'll earn extra out of each repair. black/brown & neutral polish on the bench, set of brushes for each & your away. (I charge £4)

Likewise. I get a couple of regular guys in that work in Manchester & they say a lot of repairers up there charge £3 for a quick buff up & advertise the fact. If people ask i'll do it for £3 but i have toyed with the idea of advertising it in the window.I've been on holiday loads of times & seen the shoe shine guys with queues.I've even had it done myself & probably like the rest of us i sniff out the local repairers. I believe theres a franchise at airports now ? I think it might be a city thing ? with lots of business guys wanting their expensive shoes cleaned. Not sure it would take off in local towns like mine ? but think anything up to a fiver in the right spot wouldn't be out of the way. I always polish all shoes when in for repair. But Lee got me thinking now ! "would you like your shoes polished sir/madam for an extra £2" Could add up over the day & i know my local competition doesn't even own polish !

[*]I always polish them as a matter of fact, or brush them if the are suede, especially the girls 'saturday night' ones. I always say "I've given them a brush too, they've come up nice" (or polished). I get the odd "they look like new now" or they look great, thanks"

 

They always leave with a smile, and I like to think a willingness to recommend me.

 

In major cities I would be a extra cash I agree, and the airport thing could be a little gold mine for someone if they could get permission.

I always polish them up after a repair job. Part of the service also a good addvert for the products helps selling also

i charge 4.95 shoes and 5.95 for boots but all repairs get a good going over with urad regardless

we polish all leather soling jobs

we charge when asked £7-99 shoes, £15-00 boots

and get it - so if you don't ask...

not sure if timberland boots are in vogue over there but we charge about twelve pound to clean them and basically just give them a good scrubbing with shampoo let them try at room temperature then suede brush or rough sand as for paper depending on condition then waterproof spray,easy money.as for whether to offer shine service why not,unless you have a money tree in back yard.we don't a lot but at least 4 a day.all helps.as for if they are having a repair we normally only charge if they make a point of asking there shoes to be polished but otherwise all repairs get a quick brush and sole and heels are cleaned.
