shoemender1
I had a company contact me today asking if i would be interested in taking credit card payments?Until now i have always resisted, but feel that i may be losing sales because i do not.Has anybody out there recently started to take cards?and have you noticed a increase in sales? Is it paying off?or are the outlay costs still outweighing sales increases. They have asked for a 48 month contract at £13.95 plus vat monthly,£3.99 plus vat pci-dss,20p per debit card transaction,1.5 to 2.0 % for credit card,is this a good rate?or could someone point me in the right direction to another company.Really unsure about a 48 month contract in case it does not pay,and a shorter term means higher monthly charges. Are there any extra hidden costs that i have not listed? Many Thanks in advance
Simes
I can't imagine not being able to take card payments. It costs me £105 every three months for the terminal and about £15-£20 per month in fees. The cost is minimal compared to the convenience for the customer, the enticement for the customer to spend more because it can go on the card. When selling services like car keys for example I always point out that we can take payment by card. Makes it easier for them to spend the money. If you really are bothered about the few pence per transaction, put up your prices. Also, don't have a minimum transaction amount for card use, it just annoys customers. That's my just my opinon anyway. By the way, no offence, but I would never go into your shop, because I rarely ever carry cash. I always check on the door to see if card payments are accepted. Am I the only one?
Mick Friend
I had a recent nightmare trying to get a credit card account, I tried a well known company and they faffed for 9 weeks. I eventually signed up with Payatrader. I have a virtual terminal (I do it on line) they charge an initial setup around £100 and no monthly fee, less than 3% charge on most things and later this or next month they have a terminal (with sim) for outright purchase again reasonable and a small monthly fee to cover sim card use. the company details - loads of locksmiths, plumbers etc have signed up OOOOH and I got a live account in 30 mins call her she is a diamond. http://www.payatrader.com/index.php Linda Cook Marketing Director Acceptacard Limited Email: linda.cook@acceptacard.co.uk Mobile: 07802 907643 Landline: 01296 660177 acceptacard

shoemender1
Yes it is a monthly fee for the whole of the 48 month contract,is this a usual charge?
StevenB
I'm with www.cardsave.net & pay no pci-dss fee. £230 over the course of the contract sounds like a bit of a rip off to me. The other charges sound about right though.

Simes
They've been great to me really. Had loads of problems with signal on a mobile terminal and they eventually sent me the very latest terminal with a roaming SIM at no extra cost. Simes
Yep! But if you go to Cardsave they'll normally do a better deal than going direct to Streamline
Graham
4 year contract seems a bit ott to me, wouldn't want to be tied down for that long. I'm pretty sure we're not tied down at all with ours.

dinger
yes im a mobile locksmith and decided to use a card machine because of early hour call outs ive recieved cheques twice in the middle of the morning and they bounced hence the reason, but personally when my contracts finished they can do one "that is cardsave" because there customer service is rubbish just take a look at there reviews. burghlocks
I'm with Mick, Payatrader all the way, quick and easy to set up, no monthly costs with the virtual terminal and new chip and pin unit coming next month with a £10 monthly charge (I think). You only pay a percentage of what you process.
redcap
except american express which we refuse to accept. With you on that one!!! I would rather lose the business than ever give those crooks another penny in fees! £3.99 plus vat pci-dss Seems very high! We use Commidea for our terminal and Streamline for processing. I'm sure if we shopped around we could save a pound or two here or there, but we have had excellent service from both companies, so it is not worth the hassle or the risk. One piece of advice; never accept the processing fees offered. You can negotiate and get a 2/3 pence (per transaction) knocked off those debit card fees and pay less on the credit cards.... all those pennies add up if you do a lot of transactions.
