keithm
Hi all you locksmith lurkers here on the Forum. A safe at the premisis of one of our staff has a broken key 'installed' in it, which happened today. They are in desperate need of some help to open the safe, but after trying many local 'locksmiths' they have been unable to get any help. Assuming they do not have the skill to open the safe, I wondered if there were any 'experts' on here that could offer some help/advice or service? They are Kettering based. Mick Friend
bloody hell - I go to bed once and all hell breaks out...... Broken key as has been said - gorilla hands, something jamming in the bolts and forcing the key, any of these a problem as the key will also be bent inside the lock -Oh Im assuming a mortice type key if its a cylinder key whats the problem? Removing will be a big problem- if your lucky using a probe and turning the key back and then using tweezers to remove, but my best bet is the key 'teeth' are mangled in which case I dunno the only one I did had a key stem on it and I managed to force it back and 'straighten' the key well break off the tooth. and remove. Lee
My Dad once had a safe stollen, the thieves drilled holes through the wall, put a chain round it & pulled it straight through the side of the building. Never to be seen again! Punch line was, it was disused & empty! Lee
keithm
Ok, sorted, here's the brief as I understand it. the safe was of a type that uses a combination lock, with a keyed back up. they were constantly using the key and not the combination. the wear and tear caused the failure of the lock and a local safe type comapny came and took it away. the net result is a fixed safe with a new 'cylinder' lock on it. If any of the detail seems odd, it's because this is what I've been told and not seen. They charged just £50, so they're well happy So thanks for all the replies and have a good day =D>

slippy
the safe was of a type that uses a combination lock, with a keyed back up. they were constantly using the key and not the combination. =D> Think this told us enough about the safe and I did say if they brought the safe in to the shop, Not me being called out which would have been an extra £30. Opening one of these safes and changing the camlock should take about 15mins tops and cost about £2.00 £20 brought in or £50 called out is about right. Opening a pin keyed safe is between £200 & £
