cobbler2u
Have introduced engraving in the last 18months ago. Not getting the local clubs/ schools due to engraving shop up the road. Any ideas how to pinch trade .
shop-keep
So was it a good idea to invest in engraving when there already was an established engraving business in the area?
StevenB
Offer something different - quicker service, added value, better quality - it doesn't matter what. If you just try & copy the other business, why would the clubs change from the company they already use, know & trust?
key cabin
The biggest problem you will have is to prise the customers away from an established engraver. The clubs and schools will probably already have an account set up with the engraver and will just automaticaly use them year after year. You will have to give some serious discounts to get them to come to you, but then you wont be making any profit. You should have done some homework on the sort of customers you was hoping to attract, was they there? is there someone already providing the trophies and engraving to them? Try to find out what he dose and do something different like engravable trinkets. I wish you luck.

Gray
So was it a good idea to invest in engraving when there already was an established engraving business in the area? Defeatist attitude. Why not invest! It never stopped multiples moving in to the town where I am even though there were two independants here. Good luck to cobbler2u I say. Mick Friend
Advertise - If nobody know you do it why should they come and take a look - Big Town? why not get some trophy shaped cards printed and get them dropped in letterboxes with your blurb. Buy some cheap trophies and engrave them and send samples? (no idea of cost as I dont engrave) # But remember this Coca Cola is the biggest brand in fizzy drinks and they spend millions on advertising ....Why? Gray
Bit late in the day now but set up a few wholesale accounts, they like to offer you free sample trophies at the start of the year. Use them as display items or send them out as samples. Reminds me, still got a free box of 2011 football trophies I need to unpack.
