cobblers&keys
Hi All, I have a KB Goodyear that could do with the Lifter tightening screw & Shuttle hinged clamp replacing. They don't have to be replaced with brand new ones but must be in good condition. If anybody can help will you get in touch. Thanks
keithm
You might find they're not the sort of parts that people are going to have lying aroundd. However, the Forum always surprises me The lifter tightening screw may be more of an issue than you think as the thread on the casting could be buggered Castings can be a bugger and there are plenty of them on Goodyears If you have no joy, you know where we are
cobblers&keys
Hi Keith thank you for your reply, could you pm me with a price? for parts only thanks.
Gray
I'm not too familiar with Goodyear stitchers but if the threads are buggered could the castings not be tapped out to a different size??

They have to be tapped and helicoiled as they cannot go larger but sometimes its not easy to get to the threads to do this.
Gray
I would think metric helicoils are fairly readily availiable. Nothings impossible these days
petercoulson
I would think metric helicoils are fairly readily availiable. Nothings impossible these days metric and imperial helicoils are available but the part where this problem is isnt easy to do anything with. The pinch bolt passes through a hole in the casting before going into the threaded piece, to make the thread bigger means opening the hole as well which weakens it. Not impossible but not good either. As you say though it can be done but while we have spare castings we wont.
Gray
Would it involve a major stripdown of the machine Peter?
petercoulson
no, the part with the lifter is easy to remove
Gray
So it would be easy to rethread?
petercoulson
no, like i said the bolt goes through a hole first and this would need opening up, weakening the casting. the thread is in the rear part of the casting. can be done and i think we have done it but not easy
cobblers&keys
So what is your costing for supply only for the parts I am after Peter? Thanks again

StevenB
On a serious note... steady rlj, that's twice now in the last couple of weeks you've tried to say something sensible. If this carries on, we'll start to suspect you've been hacked.

petercoulson
he is looking for the screw the arrow is pointing at - this is normally a square headed one though plus he also wants the gate that holds the shuttle in as seen on the photo.
