Forest Cobbler
We have an Apollo strap cabinet that sits on the end of the counter and we do extremely well with strap sales thanks. I just think that there're much better things to put on the walls; trophies, handbags, photo frames ....... . If we had a bigger shop, we'd only fill it up with more stuff. And as for ' SKY HOOKS ' ! Obviously that one went by with some tumble weed and the tolling of a lonesome bell.
skippy
Yeah I got the apollo cabinet on counter too Bags, batteries, shoe care, keyrings, funkeys and P.O.S on the wall. Trophies in the window and 2 tall cabinets. Photo frames and engraveable gifts as part of the counter run. Zippos, watches and Disney/Stadium keys all in the windows. But the 4foot Strap display is worth its weight in gold, better profits than most other stuff on the wall (apart from keys). Luckily not quite so limited on space here, probably call it a medium size shop, not as big as Planets though. Thought about some sky hooks too for hanging bags off the beams. (I think I saw some in poundstretchers a while back, but got some in the shed) Send you some if you like
discodave
you only have to look at timpson shops to know they should be displayed on the wall, unless you think he doesnt know what he's doing?
ironplanet uk900
displaying them on the wall in your watch repair area is the way to go. So is a clean clutter free shop.
Forest Cobbler
Heaven forbid that we should all be like Timpsons. Variety is the spice of life after all. We do take the Apollo straps out of their ridiculous plastic boxes, so that we can get many more in the cabinet than it is designed to hold, but if we put it in the watch repair area, then the customers wouldn't see them at all as it's in the back workshop where the engraving, jewellery repairs etc are done. The middle workshop area is where the shoe repairs and key cutting etc. are done, then the front third of our quite narrow shop is the retail area. We do have a clean relatively uncluttered shop, but as there are so few shops where we are, we have to stock as wide a range as we can, in an effort to stop people going to the bigger towns. Whoever would have thought that a thread about watch straps could become so stressy.

Forest Cobbler
Not only that, but we've been doing straps and batteries for over 20 years. Way longer than any Timpsons. Ok, rant over. V
discodave
so timpson owning 900 shops means he doesnt know what hes doing. im not saying copy him you just need to understand that that man knows how to display a shop
Forest Cobbler
I did not say that he does not know what he's doing. My point is that, being a small shop in an over populated area with very few shops, we need to be all things to all people. And wall space, as far as we are concerned, is better used to display leather goods, trophies, and giftware, not card after space wasting card of watch straps. discodave
dont worry val im only playing, space is always the issue in most shoe repair shops, not mine though as its massive i just aint got no money to fill the walls up in the first place.
