Guest lee.
Johnsons do appear to be using a few independants for outsourcing Repair work , could be they are testing the waters at certain locations just to see if it is viable to put there own machines and operatives in , or once service is established set up an offsite "Factory" repair unit similar to how Sketchleys used to do it . Some Johnsons shops in the west midlands also have independants in on a concession basis , just renting the space , if threy are serious this may change as well , although it is only 12 months ago when they were advertising for people interested to take up a shoe repair/key cutting concession quite close to us , get someone in to build up the trade and then do it themselves if viable was my take on the deal. discodave
this is exactly what branson does with almost all his businesses gets other people to cushion the risk of a new venture finds out it works then says goodbye and thanks very much for your knowledge, short term versus long term doesnt normally work out. but then maybe its a good thing that johnsons are doing repairs, as shoe repairing doesnt have that big a future anymore not compared to other services and if people are right about embroidery a 6k outlay compared to an outlay of shoe repair machinery what 20k plus if you want good dust extraction just doesnt warrant any thoughts at all on the matter maybe we should be helping johnsons after all then they can fight with timpson and birch and the smart ones will go and get the cream
