Been thinking about investing in a vinyl cutter for a couple of months now.Do you price jobs in vinyl per letter + a set-up charge like engraving or per square inch of vinyl used????

I don't want to spend a lot of money on machinery when people won't pay for the service.

Like those individual numbers for wheelie bins, people complaining at paying £1-£1.50 per number would they pay maybe £10ish for there whole address, just to go on a wheelie bin???

What other markets have you found or targeted for your vinyl cutting?

First of all

IN THE POST & ON THE WAY.

I originally brought my cutter when I refitted the shop & re-did all my signs & grahics myself as it was only slightly dearer to buy the cutter than pay to have them done for me. I figured any work after that would lower the cost of my shop signs.

I've never regretted it, its a cheap alternative to an is400 at times as well as you can make some nice signs & name plates with it too!

I charge £15 for a set of wheelie bin numbers which includes the number & street name, they look really nice when you get three bins lined up, far better than just numbers.

I do quite a few of these! This week I have made a sign for the shop next door & an A board + this order on the thread!

Not a fantastic amount but it all adds up. Pricing I charge depending on material costs & the time I think the job will take & believe you me it ALWAYS takes longer than you first thought.

the simple "Bowls" took me just under an hour. this included the proof image, setting up, cutting, weeding (the most time consuming part) printing out fitting instructions & packaging.

with the exception of a forum member had a customer come in wanting this I would have charges at least £20 + fitting (probably £30 in total depending on who it was!)

With vinyl its like shoe repairing all to easy to be too cheap!
