Guest the stape
Hi, First of all can I say how pleased I am, not only to find a forum dedicated to shoe repairs but also to learn that your industry is experiencing a revival during this recession. I have an enquiry: Nearly all my boots and shoes are leather soled and I always fit steel tips once they have been re-soled. I am having trouble getting hold of steel tips. ...I have recently managed to get some from eBay but cannot understand why, after a serious search on the web I find that virtually no one sells them. You can get Blakeys from Timpson but I have found these come out easily. Can anyone recommend a source?
ironplanet uk900
Take your shoes to any reputable repairer, and ask for a rubber heel with a quarter steel tip. If they can not fulfill this basic request then they are not worth bothering with.... I doubt whether you'll find many that won't.
Guest the stape
Sorry, I should have mentioned that I fit them to the front as well. It is these that I'm having problems sourcing.
toofatbyfar
you need to be asking for toe plates or segs, these need to be nailed on, not like the old blakey type, with spikes, as planet said take them to a reputable repairer,, we supply and fit or can just supply, but without a last they are a bitch to put on. Guest the stape
Thanks guys, I have a last and like to fit them myself. It's difficult to get to a cobbler as I am hardly ever home, our local one (who doesn't do steel tips BTW) did a job for me a while ago and I wasn't that impressed: The new sole started to come away within a few weeks. I have found a shoe repairer who can resole them for me by post: http://www.fcrepairs.co.uk. £69 inc. postage. Does anyone have any experience with this company? Cheers
Lee
mail order is well & good & I'm sure the repairer you have found will do a good job that you will be happy with. BUT it seams odd to me, that there are thousands of repairers in the UK, so why would you want to give the post office / courier so much of the cost of the repair? I have always offered a mail order service but it always baffles me why people would spend so much on postage! why not find another repaired nearer to you? If you do want them done mail order, I would be happy to do them for the price you have found & i'll fit you some steel tips for nothing !
