He does mind its just the moral side of things upsetting me, just not sure its the done thing

thanks anyway

sounds to me like you are not going to have this good friend anymore if you do this,, its worse than selling out to timpsons, then opening up across the road from them.

Tel,

Just reminded me that. There was a fella used to own a sweet stall next to us. He was a right manky sod, scratched the sell by dates off stuff coz his shop was overloaded with stock and he couldn't rotate. He would even take his kettle upstairs to boil it in the toilets rather than use his own electric!

He once told me off for being overkind to an old lady by putting a free sole on her shoes. She had been bringing the same shoes to us for years but had fallen on hard times. She couldn't afford a new pair so as a gesture of goodwill, we put them back to new and only charged for the heels. She was overwhelmed but the guy next door didn't see the point and attempted to enforce his opinion with the term 'There's no sentiment in business'

Funny thing - he was caught by a cleaner stealing stock off another business to sell on his shop. Quite rightly the market office booted him out. I reminded him of his own saying when he tried to flog us some stock!!

Cheeky robbing git.

Sorry to hijack the thread, had to tell ya. :D

business is business...

BUT - if 'a friend' opened near me, i'd do my upmost to make life as hard for them as i could!

friends dont s**te on friends!

we all need good friends from time to time, so dont be an ass and lose one, it might cause you more headaches than you ever had, and you wont be able to turn to one 'old friend!

"tofatbyfar, that was a little offensive. I think he was only after some advice on the matter. Wheres your Christmas spirit"

how the ***k do you need advice on this, as for christmas spirit i'd buy the biggest tree and throw through his locked shop door with as much of christmas spirit as i could.

Hi,

Sorry but can I ask as this is annoying me?

I have one shop and am thinking of opening another in a fantastic location, BUT I have a good friend whose an independent who has a shop very close by

If there is already a shop very near this postion is there room for 2 of you?

Or do you feel your friend isn't making the most of his location?

If you do decide togo for it, You will lose your friend and other people who know about what you did might not be as friendly as before.

Just my thoughts

MMMM not sure,

I opened my new shop in town where there was an independant. He is off the high street at the other end of town, My shop is on the high street. Did I feel guilty about this in a word no. He is lazy and was not making the most of what he has, He left it wide open for someone else to come in. So I did :D

As Tel says business is business

Depends if you want to sleep at night

You'd sleep alot better with another turnover coming in.

is that acceptable, are there codes that independents have etc,

Acceptable YES, Codes  NO although I'm not sure what you mean by codes

Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and curse the Marines; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
