alxfer
The local scrap dealer is willing to give me beer chits if I bring in my old obsolete keys. Problem is I have to segregate the steel from the brass. Now I had the day off school when they did metal identification. I reckon all the mortice keys are steel apart from the lightweight alloy ones. What about cylinder keys. Is it a case of yellow=brass and silver=steel, or are the silver coloured keys actually coated brass? Help please

alxfer
Just gone out to a basin of keys and what do you know? the magnet trick works! And I thought that brass would have clung to the magnet like sh*t to a blanket, Thanks Lee
