gravo 98 - new computer

Recommended Posts

My Engravers computers on the blink! packed up during the week, then came on.

Same happened today, I think the power supply is iffy, trouble is its a very old computer, not standard tower size so parts are a problem.

So whats my options? I need a new puter for it, with the printer/dongle port etc

Is it now possible to get gravostyle working of vista?

I need to replace this urgently! This computer ONLY runs the engraver so doesn't have to be all singing all dancing, what are my options?

any advice, before I go shopping?

i recall seeing on the forum vista running g5, but not sure if it will do 98

i have 98 running on xp as a back up to my g5 on a packard bell pc. plus i have an old ibm thinkpad that will run it too

check with gravo on the vista front

98 has a big old dongle too.

i suppose as long as you can connect your dongle to an xp running laptop you should be fine

heres the story so far! brought the puter from home down to work (has the right ports!)

first I tried swapping the hard drive, but couldn't get it going! so now have now installed gravostyle on the home computer, BUT when I send the fill the engraver begins to take the data, then hangs at 45 bytes & returns a "transfer error"

I am using the generic printer, & the windows spooler. what setting do I have wrong?

Just noticed that I didn't have as many fonts on this installation as on the old computer, Since I have managed to get it to start intermittently I will get it on the bench hit it with the hammer & hope it boots up one last time to get my old fonts transfered!

Sympathies are with you!

We had our engraving computer go down a month ago so it was a quick change over to get the software and files on to another computer. Finally got all our settings back to normal (the flow to hardware got us too) and then last week the other computer buggered up! Our last back up pc was swapped over and again we've had to set everything up again, what a pain in the arse!

Dell's doing ok out of us though.

sympathies to you Lee. Ive had a nightmare trying to set up a laptop ( admitedly old, but more than min spec for the job) exclusively for use with my machine, with no joy. As it is i have to schlep my laptop from home everyday as that one works fine..... i guess the term 'plug n play' doesnt exist in engraving land, much the pity.

would it be unfair to expect the manufacturers to make things a little more straight forward?

once my hair has grown back from that last time i tried to connect up, i'll have another go - i'm not confident.

  • 11 months later...

you wouldn't believe this but........................

Its now 22.11 & I'm still at work installing a computer my Dad has hurriedly built me because the one this topic was started about decided not to come on at 17.20 this afternoon. Ironic that this topic has been reserected & then the bloody thing packs up!

NOW! SOMEBODY TOLD ME WHERE THE GRAVOGRAPH FONTS WHERE & HOW TO INSTALL THEM, can anyone remind me!

All I have left to do is 6 engraving jobs & I can finally go home, who said being your own boss was fun. :-({|=
