should be shot twice

Very good replies planet, shows customer skills at an exceptional level, go to the top of the class..

Everyone else take 100 lines... "I must not tell the customer their shoes are not worth repairing".

Getting a good price for a job well done is not "ripping customers off".

Not putting them in the picture, not giving them the choice, not giving them the option, not giving them the price is ripping both the customer and yourself off.

On reflection I think anything more than 19 shillings and 11 pence for a pair of Soles & Heels is extorsion.

Why I can get a new pair of real leather shoes for under £10 from Lidl & Aldi !!!!!!!! Now if I bought these shoes in for a Stick-on-sole & Heel that would cost probably twice that price, would you tell me that the shoes are not worth it because it would cost twice as much as a new pair?

no hugh i would think you were trying to preserve the shoe however if you brought them in to be sold and heeled in leather after a few months wear i would qote you aprice and let you decide , but if you came in and asked if they were worth repairing then i would say that depends on if

1 the shoes are comfertable

2 does the cost of the repair outweigh the cost of a replacement pair of the same shoes

if the answer to both question is yes then i woul d say they are not worth doing

if the answer to 1 is yes and to 2 is no then i would say they are worth doing

The shoes are obviously comfy, thats why they want them repaired. Customers aren't idiots, the Customer wouldn't bother having them repaired if the things didn't fit properly ](*,) ](*,)

2 does the cost of the repair outweigh the cost of a replacement pair of the same shoes

That isn't the point, and its none of your business. Asking how much the shoes cost, and comparing it to the repair cost is real amature in my opinion...You are making up the customers mind, even though they may still want the comfy shoes repaired.

All you need to do is tell the customer what needs to be done to repair the shoes to a good standard that will carry your companies gaurentee, and the price of course...True you may not always get the work, but its heaps better than telling the customer there shoes aren't worth repairing. Remember, these are customers personal treasured possessions, like a watch that contains sentimental value, How many times do we see customers spending more on a watch repair than the cost of new.

Customer service skills are just as important as your repair skills, and by the way you go about it you need some training.

Exactly the point, the customer rarely says " are they worth repairing"

The cost does not come into it in many cases as the customer likes the comfy fit and does not want to have bloody raw feet wearing in a new pair.

Bear in mind that as you get older your feet get more tender/more sensitive and give a lot of trouble. many older folk will pay a small fortune for foot comfort.

Many folk in the trade who aspired to a very high level in retail and manufacturing now can only wear the comfort shoes provided by Clarks and the new M&S padded upper lines. Cost does not have a bearing on comfort.

Planet uk900 rules the roost, dont know who trained him but he were a good un.

ALL shoes are worth repairing!our job job is to advise on the repair and give a fair quote for the job.i'ts up to the customer how much they want to spend. If i turned away every shu xpress pair of shoes i'd lose a 1/4 of my business.most customers have their shoes repaired for the comfort factor.if you don'tthink the cus will come back and pick up the shoes, get them to pay up front or take a deposit.
