Guest H375tml
Dear All I am really glad I found this forum. Who knows where (in London or Herts.) I can get my soles adapted? I have something called Hallux rigidus ( stiff toe) therefore a 'rocker' is the only solution for me. I know there is a place on New Cavendish Street in Central London- but surely there must be other places that don't charge as much. Anyone? Really appreciate your help! ironplanet uk900
I've done this many times, and have a lady customer who has her shoes adapted on a regular basis with a rocker, I presume she has a similar problem. I would suggest finding an established local Independant and ask if he has any expirience of this type of work. Sometimes the work may need a little adjustment afterwards, so by sending them half way across the country to get them done could end up being more trouble than its worth. I did five pair for this customer at one time, 4 of them were perfect first time, the fifth was a problem and needed 4-5 adjustments to get them to her liking. this was mainly down to the styles she buys So just bear that in mind. Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
As long as you have a diagram with measurements from the powers that be there is no need to send them anywhere, most shoe repairers can do this job as long as they have something to work to. Many surgeons & Advisors in the Ortho section of the NHs and private do not now give schematic diagrams, mainly because they are then liable should anything go wrong. Nowadays they just generalise with instructions of !/2" raise without telling where and how the shoe is to be raised. Do yourself a favour and get specific instructions. Then your local guy can do then a lot cheaper. Failing that send them to one of the forum members by post, but be prepared for alterations until suitable. elfman
at the risk of being told by hugh that i am wrong but there is a big difference between a 1/2 inch raise and rocker sole as most of the orthopeadic trade will tell you the requests or orders from the orthotists can vary widly . ie. heel rocker , rocker sole with compensatery heel raise ,forefoot rocker or rockersole with steelsole plate, the 1/2 inch sole raise would be ordered as a raise with arol off at the toe
Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
Quite right elfman thats why I advised to get specific instructions if going to the Local Repairer. If H357tml is still active on the forum I would recommend that they send them direct to you. After all that is your stock in trade so as to speak. The customer is only as far away as the nearest Post Office!!!!
