Guest JDBKeys
Hi everyone! I was talking to a guy i supply to today and i asked him what his most popular keys were and after telling me, he told me it could be totally different 20 miles away in a different area so i was wondering how true this was. Id be really interested to know what your most popular brass mortice keys are for cutting and what area youre in to see whats popular and how location effects it. Cheers guys! Iain
Ours differs between the Securefast B571, B440 or Legge B461. Oh and the gauge 7 Era. That laughing dog just kills me! How the hell did you get it to do that? Chilli peppers or stun gun?

Guest JDBKeys
Hmmm how can i reply without sounding as if it is LOL! For one i am interested obviously in the location of things, Im presuming the city traders will be selling more industrial type blanks, maybe more merchant/hendreson, i dont know - thats why i posted LOL For two I have a lot to learn about this level of the key trade. For example, business wise atm i only stock 4 or 5 different products and some of the blanks here i dont have and tbh ive never heard of. Ive looked a few of them up now (i still cant find some) and i know the codes for some keys which i didnt know before. To us we make thin and thick era, not era L353 & L119. Anyway, Im here to learn more about my trade, learn more about yours and maybe talk to some new people. There are quite a few suppliers details on here and a few who post so im hoping im ok to post here too

How the hell did you get it to do that? Chilli peppers or stun gun? Out of these i only know what the 7g era is. Are the others brass? Ive heard of the Securefast and Legge keys but i havent seen any in brass.

Auto Key Wizard
JDB for someone in the key blank industry you seem a bit lost. The image below should educate you a little
Guest JDBKeys
LOL i am a bit lost yes which is why i posted here!! Basically we are an engineering company which produces blanks not a specialised blank manufacturer. We have produced our 4 or 5 keys for 10 years, supplied em to wholesale and thats it so i have no idea what you guys call them or what other keys are out there. So thanx a lot for the info it helps greatly If you had said Era Fortress id have know what you meant but Era F to me could be anything LOL Chubb Standard is the square spiggot? The first one? See youre educating me here LOL I just make the lovely little things
busy bee
Its the ERA 5 and 7 gauge for us as well, in rural Staffordshire. Chubb used to be our best seller, but now it's ERA, I think because Wickes DIY chain use ERA as their supplier. We do a few of the Fortress, but this is relatively new. And Yes ~ the standard Chubb is the first one!
busy bee
The Legge & Securefast are steel blanks, not brass. Guardian have a brass blank, but it isn't popular. Merchant/WMS make one too, this is quite a good seller but nothing like ERA or Chubb. The only other brass blank I can think of is a Yale. Again, not that popular though. Guest JDBKeys
Loving the name Busy Bee ... (Bee is my nickname LOL ) Thanx so much for the information that clears a lot up for me! We did used to make the Merchant (if the demand is enough in future we may possibly again) and also a Henderson in Brass. I didnt think i had seen the legge or securefast in brass. The only other key ive seen in brass is a *trying to remeber off the top of my head* Round head, possibly 5g i think it had E *star* S on it and a semi circle hole. Again nooooo idea what that is LOL. Out of everything thats popular on here i think we make them all which is reassuring. The 7g seems popular all over, i suppose as you say though its what is sold in the DIY shop that drives what people want cut. Really appreciate the information guys its a big help. Bren
The 3 brass era's for me. I am surrounded by council and ex-council estates and the era locks are all they used. Replacing the old 5/7 gauges with 'F' now. And by a happy coincidence, it's one of my dearest keys!
Guest JDBKeys
Just want to say thank you to everyone who replied, most informative! Its very reassuring to know we have everything you could want in brass (the main ones anyway!) Ive also learnt a lot - though it would still be nice to know your areas and keys if anyone wants to add. Does anyone sell many Merchant, Henderson or that new Euro* Key ive seen?
