taps

Recommended Posts

I have been fitting Katz taps supplied by 2 suppliers but they seam to have dried up. I have recently been given the number of Katz direct which is 01832 735181.

However I haven't actually contacted them yet, so don't know what response you will get!

I normally get my Katz taps from Marshall Coppin, (0208 524 1018) who usually seem to have stock, alternatively, Healy's is the other company I get them from.

I contacted Katz direct a while ago (18 months or so) when wholesalers seemed to be having problems getting stock.

I have since added them to my list of 'Companies who can't even be bothered to reply to your emails'

Ho hum.

Birch's rep told me they no longer do them (about 2-3 months ago)

how I fit them.

1. throw away the original nails use 11mm square shank small head nails, this makes them easy to transfer from pair to pair.

2. nail carbon on toe, brad nail carbon on heel, again makes transferring easier.

3. screw taps on (with electric screw driver to save time) and tight this heels centralize the screws in the taps.

4. back of screws a few turns and tap the taps against your last this should then free the taps to loosen them and allow them to 'tap' against the carbon.

the local dance shop charges 7.99 to supply only, I charge £8.50 fitted. But the best bit is every time they want them transfered I charge £5.00 it seams they get changed about 5-6 per set in there life time here, so thats an extra £30 per set.

that still leaves 2.20 per set profit, The idea with this is to be competitive with the dance shop or a stray I can do that Dad!

Quite often a customer brings in a set they have purchased locally and they are the wrong size, which I always point out.

I tell the customer mine are £8.50 which includes fitting, yet they have to pay a furture £5.00 if I fit the ones they have supplied. I have found that by being a one stop shop for the local dance schools that I have begun to become a monopoly with the majority of pupils bring shoes straight to me for swap overs or new.

the lower initial price is a loss leader in many ways reaping dividends long term. I average around 10-20 pairs of tap shoes a week and when its show time not only do I get a big increase in shoes along with that comes a big increase in lady esquire.

i have tried to get the katz taps direct - but because there is a dance shop selling them in my area they have refused to supply, this i find frustrating, the company has a policy i shop per town.

well, i've written to katz directly to see if they will deal with me!!!!!!!!!!

i just hope that i'm not subject to some huge minimum order if they do.

if this is the case and the prices are cheaper than what we currently pay would anyone be willing to contribute towards an order and we'll split the costs, stock and postage equally?

i used to get mine direct from katz taps then a local dance shop nearby complained and they refused to supply, but prices were a lot cheaper than you all mention. if you can go direct you may have to club together to get minimum postal amounts but in my experience even buying 30 paors of each type can make loads on the extra profits - tel200 has the phone number! i have to buy thru him.
