How much do you pay in accountancy fees?

Recommended Posts

It all depends on how much work you are prepared to do yourself.  I used to hat doing it and paid my accountant to do most of it.  If you work hard in your business all week, why would you want to go home or stay late to 'catch up' with your paperwork!

If you can't afford £50 a week, probably over the top for most, then stay in on a Friday and Sunday lunch whilst your mates are down the pub or out with their kids.

Maybe sometimes.  But often you get what you pay for.  For example, not every accountant will call you regularly during lockdown explaining what you can and can't claim, grants that are available and help with claims unless asked.  Not that we needed to because we did it ourselves anyway.  But comforting to know they were on the ball.  We have had other benefits of being with an account that is more than just a self-assessment administrator.  It's a balance.  If they start creeping the price up, challenge them!

my 'new accountant' been with them about 8 years now, do all my payroll, vat, bookkeeping etc -did all my furloughing etc -  charged me about £50 extra to me that is very acceptable, they need to make a bit too - with the cheque's in every month for salary etc more than worth it

One thing you can do to help keep costs down is to make sure that all your records are in order, including your paycheck stubs. Having all your financial documents in good order will make it easier for your accountant to file your taxes and keep your records up to date with Making Tax Digital (MTD). It's also good to shop around and compare prices with different accountants, as well as their services, before making a decision. Sometimes, you may find a better deal with another accountant who offers the same services at a lower cost.
