Agreed but I supply Grimsby and Scunthorpe hospitals with All locking systems, I have a dilemma as they have sent an order through for £1k plus of locks but we are closed. These locks are in important areas and heavily used so  How can I supply them if I am closed ?.

I could stay open because I’m part bike shop and am wrestling with it in my head every day. I’ve switched motion detection emails on for my CCTV camera that points at the door today to get a feel for how many people come to the door. But I actually think I’d be better off with the 80% of my wages than what I’d earn at the shop & “technically” you can’t claim furloughed worker if you earn any money for the company.

I'm not opening a couple of hours in the morning for the money (took £4 on saturday morning). I'm using the time to go thru old stock and sort whats crap and what's hopefully sellable in the future.

I'm open for customers by appointment only. Iv'e been interrogating the callers and if I feel it's a must, then they get invited to visit the shop in the morning.

So far everyone that's called has understood my position.

Took nada this morning but went out on 3 emergencies.

We may all have  slightly different positions on this due to our particular circumstances.

I'm a locksmith not a shoerepairer, so I will respond to a request (after weighing up the situation) accordingly. If you feel that you need to close your shop, then close your shop.

Amongst other visitors to the shop over the last few days, I've had a doctors surgery that's 16 miles away, come to me for 6 sets of keys to there newly opened covid-19 clinic ( they need 24 hour access). A delivery driver with a broken sprinter key travel around the same distance in the other direction. Plus a few more visits that I wouldn't have seen BC C-19.

Stay safe people, and dont assume what you see is what it is.

So I looked at all my CCTV notifications and most where people cutting across just in front of the door going to the shop next door so my conscience is rested.

i had to go in this morning to get something and switched off that cameras notifications and took down the sign on my door with my “emergency” number. I don’t want to go anywhere near the place If someone’s that desperate they can find someone else. Family.....

in case they lost the spare???

If they lost a spare, then they must still have another, Think about it...:smt023

A spare is only a spare, if another exists :smt102

Us Auto locksmiths get this all the time "I need another car key, I've lost the spare"

Drive the car to us and we will do another key.

"But how can I do that, the spare is now lost, and main key was lost year ago"

Do they not understand that spare then becomes main (only) key :smt046
