Mkrichard
I have been engraving for a while now and had some breathing problems which I didn't link, bad cough especially in the mornings and a lot of phlegm - not nice I know. It's anodised/painted cheap tags. Maybe about 10 a day or so. I stopped engraving for the last week and already it's so much better. I haven't been wearing a mask and regardless, the machine (U Marq Gem FX4) is in my office so the fine dust probably goes air born and wofts around the room. I'm going to be making a sound deadening enclosure for the machine and would also like to fit a workshop vacuum inside the box so that all the nasties are filtered. Has anyone done anything similar or can recommend a suitable workshop vacuum which is silent?
Paul_
U-Marq sell an extractor for that machine. We have one and there isn't a spot of dust when working. It isn't silent though.
Mkrichard
I'll me moving away from U Marq I think - looking at https://www.prototools.co.uk/high-z-s-720-cnc-machine.html?category_id=
kobblers
Get a small fan and an extraction machine of some sort. Place the fan so that it blows the dust away from you and towards the extractor. Rick.

Seems to be, put the machine in my new office. Done about 10 tags and it's come back again. I'm also surprised myself... maybe the tags are painted with toxic pain... Either if it's not, rather not be inhaling all the dust.
Mick Friend
I bought a vacume that you plugged the machine into - when you started the machine it started and the nozzle was on the table - now mine was a saw but sure it would work - all I need to do know is t=remember the flippin name

My supplier is a Chinese distributor off eBay, cheapest tags I can get. So I really wouldn't be surprised if there's something nasty in them. My other supplier from China who claims to supply to Disney - there tags are properly plated. Don't seem to have much of a problem with them and I have done 200 in one day with no massive issues or effects.
