Out of interest, which would you use for engraving a nickel plated base band, a cutter or a diamond?

Some of them are so hard that it's difficult to get a mark on them with a rotating diamond and I'm wondering whether a really narrow super sharp cutter is the way to go.

I've started using a diamond rotated but cut the feed rate down to 0.2 or 0.3.

Seems to dig a little deeper.

Michael, I just wanted to thank you again for this tip.

You have no idea how many times I have altered the feed rate to .2 now, on so many different items too.

Even on a coated Cross pen when I didn't want to turn the motor on, just slowing the whole thing down meant that the diamond cut through much more cleanly.
