kobblers
I ordered a Witter tow bar key for a customer. The key has the right code but isn't turning fully in the lock; it's pulling the actual lock out instead. Any help greatly appreciated in how to solve this. Rick. slippy
Key possibly too long and pushing down the locking wafer at the back
grahamparker
Shorten the key Rick so it does not lift the securing wafer.
grahamparker
Also the key will not turn fully until the tow bar is fitted on the vehicle, you can force it to think it is on the car by pushing in the 2 bearings and turning the handle (can't remember exactly but it is not easy to do). It will then spring round and the key will then turn 180 degrees as it should but then it is a pain to get it back on the car so do not worry as long as the plug turns then it will be ok. kobblers
Shortened it, it is now turning as it should but it's still pulling out the lock and it's also turning all the way round. Rick.
kobblers
I just checked the length of the key and it's nowhere near the securing wafer and yet it's still pulling out and just turning when it's in situ. Rick.
keithm
is the locking wafer jammed?
kobblers
No. Keith, I can manually move it up and down - it's almost like it's not long enough, though...... Rick.
grahamparker
Has the internal part moved stopping correct alignment of the plug so the locking pin will not quite drop in correctly ?.
kobblers
Not sure what you mean, Graham. The securing wafer is wider than the rest and in the lock housing there's only one groove which is wider than the rest, too. The lock will only go back into this part and it drops all the way down but you can pull it out at any point whilst rotating. Rick.
grahamparker
It might not quite be going deep enough in stopping the securing wafer springing out and holding the plug in place.
kobblers
The lock is totally flush with the housing. I've told the customer he should be ok to use it as long as he's careful not to pull out the plug. Thanks for all of your input. Rick.
