Ure missing the point

I wanted to share of what I had noticed with my machine or a lot of new keys with deep depths

& to top it off I was speaking to a sales rep & he recons that the ul1 is the most popular key blank

So I orderd another 1000

Only prob when people say universal I'm finding it hard to clamp in my lancer

In fact if you go back to your original post on this subject most of the early responses offered advice and agreed with you.

What until I put up a photo

Advise

??

In future iff I notice anything different

Ill keep to my self .

& just carry on cutting keys on wrong blanks

The fact that the wrong blank was used, was completely relevant IMO. I pointed it out to try and help...You wouldn't show someone how to fry an egg but not bother to tell them they'd left the shell on.

It's all too easy to brand a collective of people as 'clicky' just because they share an opinion that contradicts your own.

If you can't handle being called a buffoon on the internet, it's a good job you've never been in the Chat Room!

Get a NEW machine.. If your referring to the "Deep" cuts, and cannot cut them as your machine jaws covering the very bottom part of the key, then the Machine is Crap!

Re: Is it me or ??

"my keys dont come bk" bold quote that one.

I have cut well over 1.5 Million keys approx since starting out 30 odd years ago in this trade and even i get keys back.

I have cut 1.65 Million in the same time - Lol and Yes, mine sometimes do,

I went to Davenport Burgess years ago and HE who was referred to as 'god of the key cutting trade' even he, got some back!

maybe seen this thread a tad late but if it helps you sometimes get a wire "spacer" with your key machines to lift keys up in the vice.....

or snip the head off some heel nails(not precise but do the same job)

would this not sort the problem?

carry on!

Just read this I'm sure I've got some old wire spacers from an old machine

Ill try it until I order my new machine

But what flavour do I go for

Lol, that's a good un. I'll have to remember it.

If you haven't got any spacers then get an old wire coat hanger and snip bits off that.

I remember being taught to use heel nails at Automagic Hibs. That's only 'cause they never had any spare parts for anything. I remember our Area Manager making a copy tracer for the Mancuna out of a 2p once which lasted all of about a day as it kept bending everywhere  The tight git also asked for a brew after cancelling buying out of the petty cash. He refused to put 20p in the brew kitty so I said no and took the kettle  I'll never forget one of the directors turning up one day and offering to make me a brew as I was really busy :D (Woulda been better if he'd known how to repair, cut keys or at least bloody serve :-{{{ :-{{{ :-{{{ )

Also keep your machine clean of swarf, the build up underneath a jaw can lift it enough to make a difference

by not cutting the key in the middle of the blade as it should.

Keep an eye on how sharp your cutters are as well, as a blunt cutter can cause

the operator to push a little harder than normal resulting in a slightly deeper cut than required.

Recently I'm noticing that I'm getting more & more cylinder keys coming into to my shop were customers are having new locks or double glazed doors fitted & the keys have such a deep cuts they are boarder line to the face of my jaws ill take a photo & put it up .

It's not just new 6 pin or 5 pin Yales , I've noticed GEGE ect

I'm using a silca machine & I've had to wind in the Allen screw grub what protects the cutter hitting the jaws to get the deepest cuts

Spin the jaws round to B - C  and clamp the key on the bottom groove, it will then allow you to cut deeper using this machine.
